So...how come Romney lost...?

This is the divine advantage that Romney had at his disposal...

"The gift of the Holy Ghost, if you consent, will guide and protect you and even correct your actions. It is a spiritual voice that comes into the mind as a thought or a feeling put into your heart. . . . It is not expected that you go through life without making mistakes, but you will not make a major mistake without first being warned by the promptings of the Spirit. This promise applies to all members of the Church."
—Boyd K. Packer, "Counsel to Youth", Liahona and Ensign, November 2011

"The priesthood is the eternal power and authority of God. Through the priesthood He created and governs the heavens and the earth. By this power the universe is kept in perfect order. Through this power He accomplishes His work and glory, which is “to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man” (Moses 1:39).

Our Heavenly Father delegates His priesthood power to worthy male members of the Church. The priesthood enables them to act in God’s name for the salvation of the human family. Through it they can be authorized to preach the gospel, administer the ordinances of salvation, and govern God’s kingdom on earth."
-Gospel Principles, Chapter 13 'The Priesthood'

"The Lord promises us that we “shall find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures” (D&C 89:19). We will be taught important truths by the Holy Ghost through revelation. President Boyd K. Packer taught: “Our physical body is the instrument of our spirit. In that marvelous revelation the Word of Wisdom, we are told how to keep our bodies free from impurities which might dull, even destroy, those delicate physical senses which have to do with spiritual communication. The Word of Wisdom is a key to individual revelation” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1989, 16; or Ensign, Nov. 1989, 14).

"A number of Mormons seem to think that fellow believer Mitt Romney, now slumping in the polls, needs a little, shall we say, divine help for his performance at next week’s presidential debate.
They’ve been circulating a request via email that sympathetic Latter-day Saints join them in forgoing food and water on Sunday in a collective effort to support the candidate.
"I am asking you to join me and my family ... by fasting and praying for Mitt Romney that he will be blessed in the debates, which will be held Oct. 3rd," says an email posted early Wednesday by The Student Review, an off-campus paper for Brigham Young University students. "I know that seems like such a small thing but I believe ‘from small things, great things can come about.’ "
The email went on: "I know that fasting and praying brings about miracles."

So what happened?

$300 million in attack ads portraying him as a heartless plutocrat tend to lessen a candidate's electoral appeal. Probably the biggest factor was the auto bailout. I suspect he wishes he'd never written that op-ed.

I think the Republican finger of blame may need to point closer to home...

Republican insiders are dismayed about the impact the most prominent ad had in critical Ohio. A polemic insisting Chrysler and GM were going to be moving production overseas, it was based on a faulty reading of a Jeep press release by a conservative blog – and was taken as fact by credulous Romney staffers. It caused every regional paper in Ohio to brand Romney a liar, and the CEOs of both firms to issue statements denying the claims. "It killed us in Ohio," says one disgruntled member of the Romney campaign team. "When CEOs are coming out against a Republican candidate, you know someone has f***ed up."

However, the question being posed by the thread is why did Mormon God allow Romney to lose?

No TBM views on why Romney lost despite his divine advantage?

I suspect Romney not winning better fits the worldview of many millennialist LDS.

God was just a little too slow to curse Romney with dark skin long enough to appeal to minorities.

Mormon Jesus didn't want a Mormon president.

The simple explanation for what happened on Election Day is that the American people voted for President Barack Obama because they didn’t understand the nature of his Marxist agenda.

But it is inconceivable that the public would, on a fully informed and rational basis, choose a political ideology that guarantees American economic decline and foreign policy retreat.

Republican campaign failed to inform public of rampant, blatant media bias

With every Democratic candidate being attacked as the leftiest leftist who ever did left that's secretly in bed with Marx, it'd be fun to see how rightwing media would respond to an actual hardcore leftist candidate. Like, if Bernie Sanders was the party nominee. The outrage machine is already turned to 11. Where can it go from there beyond calls for assassination?

Obama had plenty of ads aimed at him but Romney wasn't able to pummel him the way he did Gingrich and Santorum in the Republican primary. If both candidates had had the same money Santorum might have won the nomination ( :surprised: ).

Painting Romney as a heartless plutocrat isn't hard.

The auto bailout op-ed was a disaster for Romney, but on the flip side Obama should get some credit for it.

Most importantly the Tea Party/Republican Party didn't do anything for two years except obstruct meaningful government. Remember the Jobs Bill in the Spring of 2011? Sixty billion dollars (what's another 60B$ when we're 16T$ in debt) for shovel ready infrastructure jobs including in Republican districts (infamously Obama made speeches in Boehner and Cantor's districts. Why didn't the Republicans jump on that one?

More importantly is that the Tea Party, which ran on economic reform and jobs, mostly focused on social issue attacks at both the national and state level. Planned Parenthood is a strange obsession for Republicans with people like Sen. Kyl claiming that 90% of the money going towards abortions #notmeanttobefactuallyaccurate) and other women's health issues (Virginia's transvaginal ultrasounds anyone?).

Self-deportation for Latinos?

The racist dog whistles aimed at the legitimacy of Obama's citizenship and motives? Yeah more than old white men hear those dog whistles.
