Divided America!

Hey all
Although I realize that President Obama was the clear winner in this election (Congrats to Mr. Obama

), I can't help but to consider what the numbers really say about the enormous divide we have in our country.
Yes, there were over 60,000,000 people who voted for (supported) President Obama.
But, there were also over 57,000,000 people who did not vote for (did not support)
President Obama.
Are these numbers a clear illustration/reason why there is so much gridlock within our government?
Are we (Americans) really that divided?
In your opinion, what can be done (if anything) to bring this country together? Or at the very least, what can be done to narrow the apparent gaping divide that our country faces?
Thanks in advance for you opinions/thoughts.
Peace,
Ceeboo

Could the solution be in strengthening states' rights?

President Obama....
Obama had an 18 point advantage among those making less than $36,000 a year. Is the divide among the rich and poor, as the Republicans say?
Romney also had an 18 point advantage among the "highly religious".
But....
Obama had a 9 point advantage among women.
Obama had a 12 point advantage among those with graduate degrees.
Obama had a 23 point advantage among those 18-29 years old.
Obama had a 64 point advantage among non-whites.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/154559/us-pr ... enter.aspxWhen the Republican party goes on its rants regarding gun control, abortion, one-nation-under-God, and immigration (not to mention President Obama’s birth certificate), they seriously alienate people who aren’t old-Christian-southern-white country boys.

So if the Republicans want to stay alive as a party, they must re-assess their goals? If they don't perhaps a third party will take their place.

26. Now it is not common that the voice of the people desireth anything contrary to that which is right; but it is common for the lesser part of the people to desire that which is not right; therefore this shall ye observe and make it your law—to do your business by the voice of the people.
27. And if the time comes that the voice of the people doth choose iniquity, then is the time that the judgments of God will come upon you; yea, then is the time he will visit you with great destruction even as he has hitherto visited this land. (Mosiah 29:26-27)
