LAS VEGAS (CBS Las Vegas) — A Las Vegas business owner with 114 employees fired 22 workers today, apparently as a direct result of President Obama’s re-election.

“David” (he asked to remain anonymous for obvious reasons) told Host Kevin Wall on 100.5 KXNT that “elections have consequences” and that “at the end of the day, I need to survive.”

Here’s an excerpt from the interview. Click the audio tab below to hear even more from this compelling conversation:

“I’ve done my share of educating my employees. I never tell them which way to vote. I believe in the free system we have, I believe in the right to choose who they want to be president, but I did explain as a business owner that I have always put my employees first. I always made sure that when I went without a paycheck that [I] made sure they were paid. And I explained that I always put them first and unfortunately I’m at a point where I’m being forced to have to worry about me and my family now and a business that I built from just me to 114 employees.

“I explained to them a month ago that if Obama gets in office that the regulations for Obamacare are gonna hurt our business, and I’m gonna have to make provisions to make sure I have enough money to cover the payroll taxes, the additional health care I’m gonna have to do, and I explained that to them and I said you do what you feel like in your heart you need to do, but I’m just letting you know as a warning this is things I have to think of as a business owner.

“Well unfortunately, and most of my employees are Hispanic — I’m not gonna go into what kind of company I have, but I have mostly Hispanic employees — well unfortunately we know what happened and I can’t wait around anymore, I have to be proactive. I had to lay off 22 people today to make sure that my business is gonna thrive and I’m gonna be around for years to come. I have to build up that nest egg now for the taxes and regulations that are coming my way. Elections do have consequences, but so do choices. A choice you make every day has consequences and you know what, I’ve always put my employees first, but unfortunately today I have to put me and my family first, and you watch what’s gonna happen. I’m just one guy with 114 employees — well was 114 employees — watch what happens in the next six months. The Dow alone lost 314 points today. There’s a tsunami coming and if you didn’t think this election had consequences, just wait.”

Vegas Employer: Obama Won, So I Fired 22 Employees

This is what's happening with my clientele. Many waited as long as they could, hoping there was a chance Obamacare could be changed or repealed. Obama's Christmas gift to small business and the middle and lower classes? Mass layoffs and hiring freezes.

When the economic chickens really do start coming home to roost here (and in the EU) it will be very interesting to see just how much raw suffering and destruction of living standards, economic freedom, and opportunity is necessary to turn lemmings back into rational, deliberative human beings.

What I actually fear, given these apparently bizarre election results, is that nothing that happens, whether the effective collapse of the American economy, the destruction of the American energy sector by the Obama administration and his EPA and concomitant severe curtailment of economic activity and human health and well-being; a major war between Israel and Iran, Iranian nuclear blackmail, a massive resurgence of Arab terrorism aimed at America and the West; a resurgent and aggressive fascistic Russia, creeping repression of free speech and religious liberty at home, or the continual fomenting and encouragement of histrionic racial animosity and ethnic balkanization, will prevent the lemmings from jumping.

The cultural shift - the disintegration of marriage and the family, the subversion and destruction of public education and academe by the Left, the entitlement mentality etc. - has now gone too far for the old, simplistic political rally talk of "taking back our country." There is now a majority of Americans who have simply abandoned the principles of the Founding (and the gospel, broadly speaking) or, given the state of K-12 over the last several decades, never remotely understood those principles.

The parasites are now truly beginning to devour the host.

Dark, dark days are ahead.

After a previous century of violent revolution, the Socialists have learned to raise the temperature slowly so not enough people will notice in time.

So, first he tries to blackmail his employees into voting for Romney, then he has a hissy fit when the election doesn't go his way and lays off employes over costs he hasn't even incurred yet. No wonder the republican party is on the way out.

1. Do you actually read posts, Brad?

I never tell them which way to vote. I believe in the free system we have...

2. The Republican party, which has not been a conservative or classical liberal party per se during the post WWII period, is not on the way out. It will now settle in to what it has actually been, with one brief exception, for all of my lifetime: a center-left "moderate" but not radical party that essentially restrains the rate of growth of the welfare and administrative state and, when it power, takes over management of the programs the leftist Democrats create.

It will continue to be statist, interventionist, and vast in size and scope. It is not quasi-totalitarian and openly collectivist, as is the Democratic party, but it is still moving in that general direction over time, albeit at a slower and less acutely ideological pace.

He didn't. I was constantly being asked over the last couple of years how to get around the $2500 limit on Medical FSA's and other nefarious regulations. The only answer is for it to be repealed or changed and the only way for that to happen is for Obama to be voted out of office. As a professional, one never states it that way, but most people get the hint. The actual blackmail that happened was perpetrated by the Democrats when this bill was being debated and passed.

I mostly deal with small to medium sized businesses, usually under 100 employees. But I do have several large clients and I communicate with them on a regular basis. Among those alone we're looking at thousands of potential jobs gone or cut back to part time and all with an eye to employing as many people as possible without going under. Those bosses go around and ask if anyone can survive going to part time and still remain with the company. A lot of older employees have given way to the younger with families by volunteering to do so.

Yes, I do and I did. Except Droopy's. I've read long enough here to know that the signal to noise ratio is vanishingly small, so he's hidden.

I suspect you are every bit as correct as your pre-election predictions. Let's talk again in a couple years and see how employment looks. Heck, even Romney said he needed eight years from now to get things on track.
