I know I know, this is not exactly off-topic.

What are your favorites? I have seen Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Waterworld, and The Postman. All three I could watch until I memorize the scripts. What others have you seen, and what was your reaction?

If you want a truly bizarre Post-Apocalyptic movie, might I suggest A Boy and his Dog. A post-apocalytic romp starring a young Don Johnson, Jason Robards and Johnson's companion, a talking dog. One seriously weird movie. There is an underground community that look suspiciously like Mormons.

A much more serious movie that I really like is The Rapture. A really good exploration of a young woman's spiritual desolation, with Gabriel's trumpet sounding the Rapture. Recommended.

OMG. YES on The Rapture. The ending is wonderful.

Thanks for those recommendations. I don't know if my computer/internet are fast enough for online viewing. I might have to check around at the rental kiosks.

There was another about a cataclysmic climate change to cold, set in NYC that was good.

I'm not interested in the fundamentalist ones-- but looks like The Rapture is not in that group.

The Rapture is very overlooked. Michael Tolkin is a very interesting guy. What I liked about it was it took the idea of "the Rapture" seriously and played it out to the very end: what kind of god sets up these kind of rules and allows these kind of things to happen?

Man himself, run wild, is who. That is our nature. We came awfully close to it in WWII and the Cold war, and the middle east problems are yet another symptom, especially with technology abused. That is what the entire last book of the Bible is about-- as a warning. Mankind is more likely to cause it, unless the time of earth runs down.

I think the cataclysmic climate change movie you're thinking of is The Day After Tomorrow.

There's also Waterworld, which is based on a book that was supposed to better than the movie. Global warming, polar ice caps melt, and the earth is virtually covered in water. Fresh water and dirt are precious commodities. Kind of like a Mad Max movie on water.

Have you noticed that studded leather will be the de rigueur post-apocalypse fashion statement? Survivors dress like they are going to an Oakland Raiders tailgate party or an S&M bar.

DO see The Rapture, even if it doesn't really fit the bill as a post-apocalyptic biker movie. A really underrated, thought provoking movie.
