Cancun. A week all inclusive including airfare, 4 star or 3.5 can be had for under $900. And every one speaks english.

Short of that Destin Florida.

Bookit.com is your friend, as are kayak and funjet.

Wow, 'weekend' makes it tough. I think I have an idea of where you are. How many days do you actually have? Travel time to someplace reliably warm (with a beach?) will take most of your weekend.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

amusement parks are a favorite with my family but it's not always feasible to fly to Florida in January

Say Friday to a Monday. Or even Thursday night. LOL

I think San Diego would be awesome. Plenty to do there.

Four days makes it easier. San Diego is great. Lots of amusement parks and fun stuff to do. Two weeks ago the beaches were great. The last few days have been rainy and it's getting a little chilly for hanging out on the beach right now.

On the upside, you could go and say Hi to Mitt in La Jolla (he's probably getting a little lonely right now).

Four days makes Cancun feasible if you're looking for sunny beaches and warm water. It's also great if you have an interest in history. It has a bit of an exotic flavor.

Oops, I forgot to mention that flying to Cancun or anywhere in Mexico will require passports. If you don't have those handy and don't have time to get one, the U.S. might be your only option.

Florida is nice in the winter, but So Cal is better.

San Diego is great. Amazing climate. You can also bum around Tijuana there.

Are you going now or this summer? Very South Florida is about the only nice place this time of year but if you're planning ahead the Gulf Coast is less congested.
