USDA: Has been working to get Food Stamps to Illegals

Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said of this discovery, the "USDA is actively working with the Mexican government to promote food stamps for illegal aliens." This implication, he asserted, "should have a direct impact on the fate of the immigration bill now being debated in Congress."

“These disclosures further confirm the fact that the Obama administration cannot be trusted to protect our borders or enforce our immigration laws," Fitton said. "And the coordination with a foreign government to attack the policies of an American state is contemptible.”

Sen. John Thune (R-SD) and Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) are working on a bill that would cut such programs.

Since President Obama came into office, SNAP participation has increased at 10 times the rate of job creation, the annual spending on SNAP has doubled, and one in seven Americans now participates in SNAP,” Thune said. “This explosive growth in both the SNAP enrollment and federal cost of the program is alarming and requires lawmakers to take cost-effective legislative control measures.”

Not surprisingly, Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton misrepresents what the document says. Translated into English, the offending paragraph of the document in question says:

I am not a citizen of the United States. Can I receive Food Stamps? Can my children?

* You can obtain food stamps if you are a legal immigrant. The majority of the legal immigrants should wait five years to obtain food stamps. There is no wait if you are 60 years old or older, or less than 18, or are disabled.

* Contact your local office to see if you are eligible as a legal immigrant.

*If you are not eligible because of your immigration status, your children who are legal or citizens may qualify. You do not need to disclose your immigration status to solicit these benefits for your children.

The key here is “for your children”. U.S. citizens who are poor are entitled to food stamps, even if their parents are illegal. The implication is that if you are seeking these benefits for your children, you need to prove that your children are legal.

If this group believes that food stamps should be denied to United States citizens based upon the immigration status of their parents, it should clearly state that.

Republicans working on a bill to cut food stamps? Republicans have been making such proposals for years now. Taking care of the rich is their mission, so food for the poor offends Republican sensibilities. However, the USDA needs to stop that foolishness of using limited resources in ways that were not intended by Congress.

Taking care of the rich is their mission,

Their mission is taking care of the rights of working American taxpayers, namely the same people who are on the hook for this colossal 16 trillion dollar debt. That means you Moksha.

It's enough to make you wish Bill Clinton could run again. He cut welfare benefits and balanced the budget.
