Oil Production and Imports
What Obama’s 2008 opponent advocated — “Drill, baby, drill” — has come to pass. Whether that’s because of Obama’s policies or in spite of them is something we won’t attempt to assess here, as it’s a matter of opinion. But the facts are that U.S. oil drilling has increased, production has surged, and imports have dropped dramatically.
Figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration reveal that the number of oil and gas drilling rigs operating in January was 13.1 percent higher than during the same month four years earlier, when Obama was sworn in.
Meanwhile, U.S. crude oil production was 29.4 percent higher in 2012 than it was in 2008, the year before Obama took office. And the net amount of oil and other petroleum products imported from abroad has fallen by almost exactly one-third — 33.3 percent — between 2008 and 2012.
U.S. dependency on foreign oil peaked at just over 60 percent in 2005 after decades of increase. (See Table 3.3a in the most recent EIA Monthly Energy Review, under “net imports as share of products supplied.”) But in Bush’s last few years that figure began to edge downward, reaching 57 percent in 2008.
The trend has accelerated dramatically since Obama took office, and oil dependency was down to just below 40 percent for all of last year. EIA preliminary figures show the dependency on foreign oil was below 36 percent for the first two months of 2013.

Re: Oil Production: Obama beats Bush
As usual Kevin looks at facts rather than the actual truth in details.
Fact is Kevin, is that some 90% of that "greater increase" was due to BUSH and conservative efforts, most of which occurred well before Obama.
Second, Obama and liberals have seriously blocked tons of oil production contracts, and nearly shut down U.S. oil ocean drilling.
In other words, correlation does not equal causation.
It's like the liberal claim that Clinton was a great president, great economy, surplus, etc.
What liberals ignore are the actual FACTS, the truth in the details.
First Clinton was basically a do nothing President. While he had a bit of a liberal focus, he was more concerned about legacy, not making waves, and he had conservatives blocking him otherwise. Second, ALL of Clinton's "benefits" be it the surplus or otherwise was due to Reagan and Bush prior, as well as conservative leaders.
Anyway Kevin, you really need to start seeing ALL the truth and facts before you judge things, rather than believing liberal propaganda. Of course, I know you can't help yourself given that you do the same thing with Mormonism.

Stop making up crap and start backing up your claims. The fact is you folks were bitching about how prices for gasoline would drop dramatically IF ONLY we could increase domestic production. YOu also claimed for years that production is down under Obama because of his "policies"?!
Well, domestic production has increased and prices still suck.
Now what? Will you finally take a economic course on supply and demand?

So, noticing that KG has been posting a plethora of "Obama beats Bush" (no innuendo intended) threads..one can only assume that KG is making the case for Obama being a better Republican than W was...except for the pesky reality that the facts and figures do not agree with KG's kool-aid laced fantasies.

you should sit in on that course as well....you seem to omit any notion of how domestic EXPORTS of oil has dramatically risen as well.
I believe most people that made the claim about increasing domestic production being a catalyst for price decreases were making the assumption that this production would result in an increase in domestic "supply"...an assumption you are clearly making as well.
However, if domestic supply does not increases the prices will not necessarily be influenced if demand remains the same or if demand increases....realizing that this is an really dumbed down concept but obviously being necessary for your consumption of the material.

Which "fantasies" would those be? My point here is that Obama has doen the exact opposite of what his enemies insisted he'd do. They were complaining about decreased domestic production for his first three years in office.

Irrelevant to the point of this thread.

Uh, no I'm not.

Try rephrasing that. This time add coherency.

You have the same knowledge of economics that Angelina Jolie has of chastity. Give this up, Kevin, its a dead end for you.
