Tebow signs with New England

Post by _bcspace »

The inept Jets now look completely inept. Word was Tebow was looking pretty good in practice and the coaches were liking him so they had to cut him a little earlier than expected before it got out of hand. Now they look even worse and they got nothing for the money they spent. I'm guessing the Pats, needing to upgrade depth at QB, were a little worried by Chicago's trying out of Jamarcus Russell so they took their man while they still could.

It can't be that bad. The word also was some of Tebow's throwing idiosyncrasies have been smoothed out. ESPN, while not necessarily a stellar judge of players, nevertheless had Tebow ranked as the number one free agent QB ahead of Young, Batch, and Russell. Plus Tebow is a proven winner despite his perceived flaws.

What if Brady goes down? In Tebow, the Pats now have a guy who at the very least can will them to and possibly through the playoffs. They can also now match SF, Philadelphia, and Wash, in playing style if they have to.

At the very least, Tebow can play a practice role mimicking the offenses of SF, PHI, and WASH. But I'll bet he's much better than that role.

The Pats win. Jets, Jags, Cowboys (Jerry always has an eye out for marketing ploys), and perhaps a couple of other teams for whom Tebow would have been an upgrade lose on this one.

The only other factors needed in order to judge this besides time is whether or not the contract has any guaranteed money and if there's any word on a position change which I think Tebow is unlikely to agree to (Plus the Pats released a QB just before this deal).

bcspace, why are you not boycotting the NFL? The NFL is unionized.

I am afraid that the Denver Broncos are going to go all the way in the coming up NFL football season. I hope that I am wrong, but with Peyton Manning and a very good defense I am afraid that I am going to be right.

Tebow on the bench? The last, desperate choice if all else fails? How long can that last? Tebow is the spare tire until they find a better one.

Even so, the Patriots are a very successful organization at evaluating and recruiting talent. It's not like he's being traded to the Lions.

Yeah, that's true. I think that it's a matter of depth of bench. Right now he is the third go to guy. It will be interesting to see if he plays and in what position he plays.

I just don't understand how someone who has played football at the highest levels his entire life like Tebow has, can't be taught to be more accurate with his passes.

I'm a little shocked the Pats and Coach Belichick would bring this kind of distraction to their team. If Tebow makes the team it'll be as a third string quarterback. Crazy.

This.

Actually, it makes me sad to see this. I don't like Tim Tebow, didn't see what the hype was about and thought Denver's defense was the best thing to happen to him.

BUT - I can't deny Bill Belichick knows how to get water from stone. If anyone could find a way to make Tebow into a producer it will be him. And the fact he repeatedly described Tebow as, "He's a talented player, he's smart and he works hard." is the type of praise I'd normally think would take a player a long way.

But damn, I dislike Tim Tebow.

ETA: Now that I think about it, maybe it's better said, "I really, REALLY dislike Tebow fans."

While I hope they are able to someday get rid of the union, the NFL has kept it under control fairly well over the years.
