It should be noted that then and for most of history "slavery/servitude" was considered "normal" and it was how you treated slaves and servants that determined morality or not.

Jefferson for example thought of his slaves as family and almost never allowed any to be beaten.
He treated them well as human beings.

But, it is true that great men can have flaws either unintentionally such as slavery and sometimes words said that by our standards would be wrong or evil, or intentionally such as having a mistress even though such was considered wrong but often normal as well.

But, even with the flaws, people still respect who he was and what he did.

Now I wonder why anti-mormons don't give Brigham Young or other LDS leaders the same respect?
Of course, to be fair most anti-mormons are likely liberals, thus they wouldn't give even the founders any respect, so for those I guess we can't expect the same for LDS leaders.

I'm sorry but did you just mention Thomas Jefferson in the same breath as any LDS leader in some sort of analogy?
Whatever appears to be against the Book of Mormon is going to be overturned at some time in the future. So we can be pretty open minded.-charity 3/7/07

BY was bonking a lot of women while Jefferson was only with one woman who fell pregnant each time he came home to Monticello.
