One more opinion...

As dozens of threads handle the case, none of them are count...

Speaking for the first time since the neighbourhood watch volunteer was acquitted of murder, Mr Obama spoke in highly personal terms as he reflected on his remark last year that if he had a son, he would look like Trayvon.

Drawing an even more direct connection to the 17-year-old, he said: “Another way of saying that is, Trayvon Martin could’ve been me, 35 years ago.”

Mr Obama, in his most emotional and powerful words on race since becoming President, made an unscheduled appearance in the White House briefing room where he talked for 20 minutes without a teleprompter.

I thought the president's comments were very pertinent. Context is crucial in understanding the reaction of segments of the US towards this entire event. There are posters on this board who pretend that racial profiling and bias doesn't exist in our legal system. But those are the same posters who tend to create their own facts along with their own opinions. No one's comments can reach someone like that. But most people are able to admit that the US legal system has a troubled past with African-Americans, and thereby able to relate to the president's comments.

It has been YEARS since injustice of the legal system, 30-40..... GET OVER IT.

Obama's remarks were irrelevant.... Race had ZERO to do with the issue, other than liberals making it so. Zimmerman profiled BEHAVIOR, not race. He would have done the same exact thing had it been a WHITE GUY in a hoodie and acting all strange.

Which happens ALL THE TIME.... also.

What you people are doing is LYING.... pure and simple. We don't have to "understand" anything.
We understand.... We black and white are OVER IT, we know and feel the pain of racism. Liberals aren't however with their white guilt, and liberal blacks aren't with their liberal victimization beliefs because of whitle liberals.

You don't condemn a man for simply defending himself because of "your beliefs".

Do you know what occurs today??? REVERSE profiling.... Liberals now engage in reverse discrimination, and are the racists of today. Zimmerman was NOTHING about race.... But you liberals are racist, making him racist.

You liberals do the SAME EXACT THING to us conservatives.... Because we believe Obama's a socialist/Marxist/Communist according to his beliefs and actions of the past and now, you call us RACIST. Yet, we would believe the same things if a white person was there having believed and done the same things. Our views have ZERO to do with race..... We judge CHARACTER!!!

You people are the liars, and are the actual ones who "make stuff up" etc. because of YOUR beliefs and opinions, making up facts.

It just fascinates me that you people have the balls to claim "we" are the ones making up facts and judging by opinion. Good heavens you people are warped to no end.

FACT.... Race had ZERO to do with Zimmerman or the event. That's not "made up".
on and on....
But you liberals have made up facts, claiming race was involved. And you did so from the beginning by manipulating the phone calls, etc.

Please show me some some facts to substantiate your assertion that it has been 30-40 years since the injustice of the legal system.

I was hoping that President Obama would speak about this situation after the verdict came out and the protests that followed right after it, but I am disappointed in the comments made from Obama yesterday.

MeDotOrg..... All your links do is misrepresent the truth.

Blacks are more in the system, get longer sentences etc. ENTIRELY because they commit more crimes.

It's as simple as this.

You take a white guy who this is is only or almost only crime, you take a black guy for the same crime, but he has years of a criminal record, so OF COURSE he's going to get a longer sentence than the white guy.

People that have actually been involved in law enforcement know these simple facts.
Liberal spin masters because of their guilt and "feelings" are only telling part of the truth, using it to lie.

ldsfaqs, there seems to be a pattern in debating with you:

  1. You present an opinion.
  2. Someone offers a study or studies which contradict your opinion.
  3. Without offering any studies to back your opinion, you say that the studies are biased, i.e. 'only telling part of the truth.'
  4. You provide no documentation as to exactly why the studies are biased.
You say things like 'everybody knows' or 'common sense' or in this case 'people in law enforcement know these simple facts''.

ldsfaqs, if people in law enforcement 'know these simple facts', it should be relatively easy disprove all of the studies indicating otherwise. Where are the studies indicating that the only factor in sentencing is repeat offender status and not race?

The Sentencing Project wrote:The more incisive findings in non-capital cases are the result of interactive analysis. The key findings in this regard include:

  • Young, black and Latino males (especially if unemployed) are subject to particularly
    harsh sentencing compared to other offender populations;
  • Black and Latino defendants are disadvantaged compared to whites with regard to
    legal-process related factors such as the “trial penalty,” sentence reductions for
    substantial assistance, criminal history, pretrial detention, and type of attorney;
  • Black defendants convicted of harming white victims suffer harsher penalties than
    blacks who commit crimes against other blacks or white defendants who harm whites;
  • Black and Latino defendants tend to be sentenced more severely than comparably
    situated white defendants for less serious crimes, especially drug and property crimes.

Your anecdotal encounters with law enforcement are not a 'study'. If your encounters were with a public defender's office you might find a different set of anecdotes.

MeDotOrg.....

If you're interested in studies that tell the opposite view debunking your studies, they are readily out there for you to look up, if you were actually interested in the truth.

This is a discussion forum. I'm relaying things according to my own experience, learning and observations. It is not requisite to post links to every statement a person makes.

People aren't convinced by anything anyway unless they do THEIR OWN work.
So, what does your "posturing" really do? I post links all the time when I have the time and interest. Stop being stupid and a petty little child.

I'm well familiar with your claims, and they are false. I've done the work to know FOR MYSELF.
Do your OWN due diligence please, and stop blaming others for your lack of diligence.

Injustice is as perennial as the grass and as numerous as the stars in the Sky. A thousand years from now, nay ten thousand years from now Virginia, there will still be injustice.

Good causes sometimes have bad consequences. Blacks, women, and other historical out-groups were right to demand equality before the law and the full respect and liberties due to any member of our civilization; but the tactics they used to “raise consciousness” have sometimes veered into the creepy and pathological, borrowing the least sane features of religious evangelism.
