It seemed odd to me that Gen. Forrest's statue was still standing. It's not in a white neighborhood. Most white people fled Memphis for Southhaven, MS or Germantown, TN when Mayor Willie Herenton came to power.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

No one can argue that Forrest was not a remarkable General and tactician. He was also an incredibly brave man. He also suffered from the same stupidity as many of the Southern Generals did. That's one of the reasons that the South lost.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

What stuipidity are you referring to? When I think of civil war general stupidity I think of marching your men into gunfire in charges. Those tactics worked well for Napoleon but as the weaponry improved they didn't work. Lee's campaign into Antietman and Gettysburg were disastrous for the south and it was partly because the West Point trained generals tactics hadn't caught up with the technology. Nathan Bedford Forrest was not schooled at West Point but worked his way up the ranks. It seemed to me that it made him more effective.
