Hot October

Post by _Brackite »

From The Washington Post:

Earth has warmest October on record as ocean temperatures top charts

...

The Japan dataset reveals the October temperature was 0.61 F above the 1981-2010 average, well (0.18F) above the next warmest year, 2003 (in records dating back to 1891).
NASA’s temperature record indicates this October tied with October 2005 as the warmest (in records dating back to 1880), 1.37 F above the 1951-1980 average (its base period).
The University of Alabama (which dates back to 1979) showed October 2014 tied October 2012 as warmest in its record, 0.67 F above the 30-year average for October.

The Satellite Temperature measurements for November of 2014 have recently just came out. And it looks like that November of 2014 is the second warmest November on record according to the Satellite Temperature measurements.

November 2014 was the second warmest November in the 36-year global satellite temperature record, according to Dr. John Christy, a professor of atmospheric science and director of the Earth System Science Center at The University of Alabama in Huntsville.

With a global average temperature that was 0.33 C (about 0.60 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than seasonal norms, November 2014 trailed only November 2009, which averaged 0.39 C (about 0.70 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than seasonal norms.

It is definitely true that California has experienced record or near record highs this year. Thankfully, we are at least getting some very welcome relief from the record drought we have been experiencing.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

to be fair, is it not inevitable that at least one October will be the "hottest on record" ?

California for 2014 has at least a 99% chance of being the warmest year on record there.

The good news is that El Nino promises a wet winter. The bad news is that the ocean is so warm there is an algae bloom making lobsters poisonous.

But we have it good in California. In the Persian Gulf it may get too hot for humans to survive.
