I've recently been reading the four volume bio of LBJ by Caro (sorry no youtube ldsfaqs, just words) and it's been rather illuminating about the Democratic party's internal strife during the 1940s-60s. The Southern Dixiecrats along with numerous mid western and western Republican senators held civil rights back for nearly 30 years until the first civil rights law, albeit a weak one, was pushed through the Senate for the first time in 1957 with LBJ's help. Southern Dixiecrats totally shifted away from the Democratic party beginning with the Goldwater election in 1964 after LBJ basically betrayed their racist ideals.

Interestingly the Democrats had a civil rights plank forced into their campaign platform by northern Democratic liberals way back in 1948 by liberals like Hubert Humphrey long before the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964 (this led to the 1948 campaign of Strom Thurmond in 1948). They just never could get any traction against the Senate which was controlled at that time by the Southern senators for various reasons.

I agree that not all Republicans are racists. Only one of the Republicans I am personally acquainted with could justly be accused of racism (that one is so extreme that he would favor denying the vote not only to non-whites, but anyone not born in the USA), but it still seems true that there is a stubborn racist streak in the extreme fundamentalist right wing core that has gained too much undue influence and power within Republican ranks.

Even further, another flaw in your argument is that you ignore that they show that 77% of the ENTIRE country approved of Interracial marriage, and only 17% disapproved....
So, that little FACT right there disproves your "Republicans are racist" claim.

A cherry pick which is likely not even reliable due to poor questions in the first place.

Another thing..... 46% said no, and 40% said yes, interracial marriage is fine.
That there are "racists" in the South is no surprise..... You have ZERO proof that it's ONLY Republicans in the south that have the racists.
In fact, there is plenty of proof that there are many in both party's in the south.

Of course, it's possible..... But again, Southern values and ideology is not and NEVER has been Republican Ideology. (and one issue, nor some religious values does not make us equal, any more than it would make republicans equal to liberals because we sometimes have the same values and ideology's, so don't bring up your stupid lying cherry pick of 'state rights')

Why can the government force people to have an ID to get Welfare, but force them to have one to Vote, so as to prevent the common Democrat fraud of multiple voting, preventing non-citizens from voting, etc.?

Do you really think people should vote more than once and also for people not living in this country to come here and thus influence an election by voting?

You should read better books, because LBJ was not a good man when it concerns race......

I've been to MANY Republican meetings, gatherings, etc.....
NEVER seen a SINGLE racist.....

Of course, I've seen racists from all sides at some point in life, but the Republican party isn't even a bastion of racism as you believe.
Far more racism come from blacks, even though they are a small part of the population.
Republican Values are EXACTLY the same as they've always been since the party of founded and solidified those and it's values over the next years.
