Thank you Jersey Girl! Elsewhere, I was provided a website, and national phone number, but this local information will be perfect.

Part of me hopes I don't see them there tonight (or ever again, for that matter, as it likely means they were able to get some housing, etc.). But, if I do see them, and they are indeed Vets, I want to make sure they get all the help they need and deserve.

You da besssssst!

Always call DAV. That's your gateway to helping vets.

p.s. DAV typically runs thrift stores in different areas. You can also check on www.Dav.org

Jersey Girl,

Thank you again for the suggestion of DAV. I was able to speak with the local supervisor for almost 45 minutes yesterday. Not only was I able to get a lot of information, but he also regularly goes out to provide food and resources to the homeless in the valley. So, once his current workload settles down (likely as the holidays approach), we are going to meet up and see if we can collaborate on something.

Your suggestion just opened another potential door to help bring relief to people in need.

I told you so! Always ask DAV. Don't ask anyone else but DAV!

If anyone has any umbrellas that are just gathering dust, and wouldn't mind sending them my way, they would be very much appreciated. Last night it was pouring, but there were still about 40 people lined up waiting for food, soaked to the bone. There was also a large group under the overpass nearby that volunteers were able to walk food over to.

It doesn't rain often, but I was thinking it would probably be awesome to have some umbrellas on hand that we could give out on the rare occasions that it does rain. The fact that those 40 people stood in the rain, just for a meal, is rather remarkable to me.

Umbrellas. What a great idea! To be soaking wet must make a needed meal less satisfying.

Bumping for umbrellas. Having to stand in line for your one good meal of the day is bad enough. Having to stand in pouring rain without an umbrella is too much.

Then and now.
Hungary, Budapest.

I don't know who managed it in 1918.
Now, it is not the FideSS government with its 2/3 majority.

Today, it is the Charity Service of the Order of Malta, and a lot of church (the list would be too long here --- the LDS is not among them --- ).

To be true, the government has one noteworthy step.
Sent down such type actions from the central districts of our capital. Homeless, poor persons in line not a good PR, You know...

by the way
We don't donate to these structures. In the last 30+ years we always had - and have - one homeless person. (In general, this means one family with more or less members.)
My wife used to learn it from her father, who was a Reformed Church pastor.

To me, it's sad that anyone needs to rely on charity to eat. I'm happy to help (and I do), but in a modern society, there should be no homeless people and no hungry people. No children without health care and no children who suffer through no fault of their own.
