Wiener Fiakergulasch

Post by _ludwigm »

While goulash originated in Hungary, Vienna made it it's own. Dating back to the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, goulash became a staple of Austrian and particularly Viennese cuisine and can be found in any gasthaus throughout Austria. The secret to get this beautiful dark color is to saute the onions until very dark before adding the meat. Use hungarian paprika (Jersey Girl warning!) but don't let it burn, it will get bitter. In Vienna, Gulasch is served either with a fresh kaiser roll or bread dumplings called "Semmelknodel" and many time features a pickle as garnish.Good luck and enjoy!

Ludwigm, this name of this form of goulash sounds unsavory. How about we call it Austrian Goulash as a counterpart to the famous American dish, Hungarian Goulash?

Why? Because Americans call their dicks as wiener?

Call anything what You want to rename.

Call "high school" the middle school !
Call "billion" the milliard, "trillion" the billion (and all of other range) !
Call "elevator" the lift !

Anyway, it is Wiener Fiakergulasch by default. And You may even call it slumgullion.

Americans...
How many of them know where is Austria and/or Hungary on the map?

Austrian Goulash sounds like something I would order. The German dish rouladen has a nice sound. Pasta has a nice sound, but when you call it Spätzle it doesn't sound as good. Maybe that is just pickiness on my part and has nothing to do with Americans knowing geography. Even I can even name the Provinces of Canada and the respective Capitols, but wiener fiakergulash does not sound as appetizing.

by the way, did you know that most of the inhabited planets have a version of meatballs? Not sure about interplanetary gulash.

The Cold War is over. It's okay to not hate Americans anymore.
