Nov 03, 1631, The Reverend John Eliot arrived in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was the first Protestant minister to dedicate himself to the conversion of Native Americans to Christianity.
He was often known as the "Apostle to the Indians" (casino Indian not quickie-mart Indian)

Notable accomplishments include having a book banned due to the proclamation that Christ is the only heir to the crown of England

and of course the delightful read: "A Brief Narrative of the Progress of the Gospel amongst the Indians in New England, in the Year 1670"

But, the good reverend may be responsible most for the "Praying Indians" and for the 1646 "Act for the Propagation of the Gospel amongst the Indians."
