What Are Your Hobbies?

Post by _Doctor Steuss »

One of the things (beyond the personalities, and friendships) that keeps me around this joint is the wealth of knowledge on so many different subjects.

So, out of curiosity, I was wondering, what are your hobbies? Anyone building a doomsday device, pictures are a bonus.

I haven't been able to do this for a while, but my favorite hobby was to search the Mojave desert for petroglyphs in my trusty little Jeep and photograph them. I wish I was out there right now.

Here's a link to a few:

This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Probably things no one else cares about.

1. Hand arts (I know how to do many hand arts, but not stained glass or pottery wheel--yet)
2. Scrapbooking (Mostly heritage/family history type stuff with journaling)
3. DIY on the house (go power tools!)
4. Gardening (dirt is good for the soul)
5. Home decorating (long story)

Can't open the link, but it's probably because of the rain yesterday (our internet tends to be temperamental after it rains). I'll try again a bit later.

When my dad was a Brakeman (before he became a Locomotive Engineer) he used to bring binoculars with him on the train. He would take my friends and I out on the train access roads to petroglyphs he was able to spot from the train. This was before 9/11 though, so I don't think we would be able to get anywhere near those train access roads nowadays without Railroad police swarming us.

For a while, my dad was quite the student of glyphs and their likely meanings. Sometimes he was able to use glyphs to find even more in the surrounding area.

Even out in those remote areas, there would be glyphs that had been vandalized. One day, photography like yours may be our only link to that part of our Nation's history.

I redid the bathroom cabinets last year, and to my chagrin, they turned out incredible. Now my wife wants me to do the whole kitchen.

I wish this was a hobby of mine. I kind of loathe it – which is weird, because I like woodworking (building furniture and crafts).

What did you do to them? Replace? Paint? Stain?

I have a love-hate relationship with DIY. Invariably, projects take longer than I predicted, they cost more, I screw something up and figure out how to fix or fake it, and about 3/4 of the way through I always get to the point of "forget perfect, just get it done!!"

Painted, and added hardware.
