If you followed the sun from Alaska, you'd wind up in the Pacific Ocean, not Patagonia. :-)

My sister had that same dresser in the 80s.

Your's looks much nicer.

The 80's is exactly where our dresser comes from. We had 2 sets of it. I still have all the dressers, only one headboard/footboard.

Just in case people are considering chalk paint...

That was my first experience with Annie Sloan chalk paint and wax. What I learned (after reading so many blogs and pinterest pins) is that the chalk paint is *everything* people say that it is. You don't need to sand or prime, though I did lightly sand the slick laminate top just to be sure and according to Annie Sloan's advice on her website.

I used 3 coats, could have gotten by with just 2.

What I liked was the no sanding/primer part, the fact that the paint is so thick I could paint it right in the room it was in (couple of things for drop cloths/moving stuff out of the way), it dries SO fast and the wax makes the finish (yes, it has brush strokes) smooth as butter and it has a satin shine to it. I am hoping to find time to paint one other tall dresser from the set.

I mounted the drawer pulls on foam board and sprayed them outdoors with "hammered pewter" by Rustoleum.

I've recently read a blog review where the blogger took all the major chalk paint brands and two recipes of homemade chalk paint, and reviewed them side by side. Her conclusion was that there was NO difference between the store brands or homemade, and she demonstrates this with step by step/side by side pics.

Pretty interesting!

Nice work, everyone!

I suppose my hobbies are reading, writing (serious and comedic stuff), and playing the piano.

I also follow the NFL, but I find my interest in that waning over the years. Why emotionally invest in something over which you have no control?

I like collage football. At least there is just a little commitment to an institution that is not about pure profit. Pro players go where they have to and play for the money. I don't think they care much who they play for as long as they get payed.

One could probably say the same for big school players, but it at least has the veneer of sportsmanship.

While I understand your reasoning, I have an opposite view on college football. I refuse to watch it mostly because I view the NCAA as exploiting college students for obscene amounts of cash. I hate that there is so much corporate influence on our educational institutions in this country. A football coach making millions of dollars a year? Why should that teacher make more than all the others?

It's sickening.

Honestly, part of my waning interest in football is that I see it as a damaging distraction from the major issues facing this country. Who won the game is so unimportant compared to my daughter's future. I'd rather go to a political rally than a football game. Nothing will kill this country like indifference on the part of the electorate, so football/sports drones (as well as reality TV, gossip, entertainment, and fashion drones) are starting to really get me down.
