The last two have figured pretty prominently on my list of odd diversions over the last 15 years or so.
I got my hands on a Magellan back in 2001 ( a gift from family) and on a whim went looking for a 'cache one day some months later, and found myself hooked - in part because it coupled a quirky activity with some of the best sightseeing possible. After a couple of years I had been led to more awesome locations as a result of cache hunts than I ever could have otherwise discovered, and I have the early caching community to thank for that.
It was so fun hitting the trails back then that it didn't take long to happily locate about a third of the active caches available in the state (and for a very short while had the dubious distinction of membership in the top 10 folks for 'finds', according to a local group that kept tabs on such things - that was a sure sign of a bit too much enthusiasm!) ... but with the limited number of caches available it was an easy mark to hit. The hobby has long since exploded in numbers of both caches and participants and I'm pretty sure that I'm now about 4 billion caches behind my old pace, and everyone else.
