My friend lived in the Chelsea for several years. I don't know that I'll ever forgive myself for not flying out to stay with him.
I've never been further east than Texas -- rascally touch of the ole hodophobia.

I hope you make it sometime. We never know where life will lead us.
Your friend lived the Boho NY dream. The Chelsea is an interesting place. Dylan Thomas, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen......

One of the times he came back to Vegas, he brought back a recording he had done in his room with a fellow resident. Her name was Stormy. If I remember correctly, she was in her early 70’s, and she was a cross-dresser (I wish I could remember more of her story). She sang a rendition of “Summertime.” It was as if each note was carrying with it her lifetime of struggles. Hauntingly beautiful.
Everything in Vegas is new. Anything old gets destroyed, and rebuilt. Even most of the residents are new. I can’t imagine what it would be like living in a place that has so much personality and history.

One of my favorite things about the East Coast is that most everything is old. So much diversity, culture, ethnicity and history to drink in.
One of my favorite things to do on the EC is to sit on the beach and listen to the sound of waves mixed with all the languages I hear, and seeing the NYC skyline in the distance.
My idea of a good time. :-)

That song brings back childhood memories of (believe it or not) Newark all decked out for Christmas. NYC, of course, is simply breath taking this time of year. The store fronts are simply not to be believed--so much opulence! One of my kids was there this time last year. She skated in RFC. Such an experience!

I believe you about Newark. I'm just a little too young to remember it that way, but I know that it was quite a city up until the late 60s or early 70s. People still fondly remember Hahne's and Bamberger's.

I was going to mention Bam's but I didn't think you'd know what it was. ;-)
Let me revise.
That song brings back child hood memories of (believe it or not) Newark all decked out for Christmas when I went there to get my Santa photo at Bamberger's.
