Friends, might be relocating to Las Vegas Nevada, help
Been here in Dc metro for a while. Some job stuff is going on and we might be relocating to Vegas, specifically Henderson.
Is this the end of the world? Is Henderson good? Do the schools suck? Where do kids go to college? I have never lived in a place with such a weak amount of universities, it is shocking.
this is our first relocation as non practicing Mormons. Generally, we are use to pulling up and having a bunch of built in friends from the Church. We do have a tiny bit of family in Henderson/Vegas.
Excuse my posting...I am typing from my phone.

Hey, lostinlv, I wish you the best. Vegas is not the end of the world. I have always said that I like Reno better because it is so close to hell you can see Sparks.

Henderson is the best part of Vegas, so you're good (save the rich part of Vegas).
"Weak amount of universities"?
Don't know what drugs you are on, but there's UNLV and various other little schools and vocational things.
So, it's fine enough.... I lived there 9 years. Couple of our members live there.

I suggest that you PM Doctor Stuess. He lives there and I think he knows the area well. Good luck with move!
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Depends largely on where in Henderson you will be moving. The meth corridor along Boulder Highway is one of the most crime ridden areas of the valley. Then there's the area affectionately called "Hendertuckey" (known for its front yards used as parking lots, amongst other classy things). Basically anything on the east(ish) end of Henderson will be more crime ridden, and on the lower end of median income.
The south, and southwest areas are really nice though. If you end up zoned for Green Valley High School, that’s one of the best public schools in the valley. Basically, anything in Green Valley, Silverado Ranch, Anthem, or Mountains Edge will be highly affluent areas with low crime and good schools (at least as far as only Henderson neighborhoods go).
Depending on what career your kids are looking to go into, there should be ample college opportunities if they wanted to stay local. Community College of Southern Nevada has multiple campuses in the valley. University of Phoenix has a decent presence. There’s also the medical school, which is small but moderately well respected. UNLV isn’t terrible, but it’s no ivy league – with the exception of the Boyd Law School. You also have some fairly well respected culinary schools, a few HVAC technical academies, some lighting/stage type schools, as well as a few other odds and sods.
Dixie, and SUU aren’t that far away, if they wanted an “out of state” college experience, but wanted to be able to drive home for the weekends.

Welcome to Vegas lostindc. We are going to be neighbors. Henderson is the best part of Vegas to live in by the way.
Anyway, I've lived all over the world and I love this place. You can live like a king here because everything is much cheaper here than is other large metro areas. Plus the weather is awesome.
Most of the public schools pretty much suck though, so good luck with that.
