OK, I took a look at the article and did a little googling.

Woodland is a very small town in North Carolina. It has around 750 residents and its population is declining. It is located in a traditionally democratic county and its current representative in the U.S. House is a democrat. Its population is about evenly split between white and black residents, and it recently elected its first black mayor. What I can't find anywhere in any article is which political party the people who were quoted in the original article belonged to. If you had told me that one person was opposed for environmental and health reasons and nothing more, I'd have guessed democrat. But it would just have been a guess. So, Kevin, on what evidence in the article to you base the claim that these were Republicans?

Also, there were lots of concerns expressed at the meeting. Some of them would be concerns expressed by the residents of any small, declining town, including the effect on property values and attracting commerce to the town. The town had already approved three farms. Nothing in the article indicates why the town council voted against the fourth farm and for a moratorium on further farms.

Ever been to a town or city council meeting. They often attract some of the more colorful characters in the area. You can find all kinds of folks that say nutty things regardless of political affiliation.

Stupid comes in all political flavors. So does using a nothing burger story to troll one's political opponents.

According to the French, it's a masculine noun (le pistolet). In Spanish, it looks like it depends on the type of gun (la pistola vs el revólver).

In English, masculinity for guns is only assumed.
