I've been reading Sy Hersh since My Lai, and although he has done a lot of great investigative journalism, he has not been the gold standard for accuracy in all of reporting. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but if Sy Hersh is my source I want another source for confirmation.

For what it is worth, this is an old claim. Is it that a video is finally expected to leak? We already know the prison involved torture, murder, and rape of its inmates (which often were incarcerated for the flimsiest of reasons). We also know whatever pictures/video exists, the government argues it is so horrible that it would damage national security for it to be released.

We already know awful things happened guys.

Who has been held accountable? The person whom leaked the story is the only person who has been held accountable.

Why does Guantanamo bay detention center still operate? Because the Republican held Congress wants to keep it open, by not providing the funds to close it.

Me too. Hersh has broken some big stories in the past, but I don't think his alternative story of the killing of Bin Laden has held up very well. It may be age catching up with him. Or pressing too hard. At any rate, I don't see enough evidence at this point.

I do hope that whatever it is that the American public has been "protected" from seeing about Abu Graib becomes public. We should know what happens when we don't draw clear lines about torture and make sure we stand by them. We should also understand that, when we go to war, this kind of stuff is likely part of the cost.

If what Hersh claims is true, I hope everyone responsible stands trial for war crimes. It does no good to simply claim that "we do not torture" and then, when it does happen, turn our backs and pretend it didn't.
