How healthy are people who have to take potent prescription drugs in the first place? I'm not sure death is the worst thing for people living in chronic pain. Some of them need the drugs so they can sleep at night or get through their workday. I personally wouldn't call these cases addiction. It's just people sacrificing one health problem for another.
Young healthy kids living through their college years high probably doesn't kill them most of the time. They often don't achieve much either. To me it's not all about life or death, but rather quality and productivity of life.
