For Bowie Fans

Post by _Doctor Steuss »

I had a fun little experience the other weekend. After going into musical retirement about 8 years ago, I was resurrected for a Bowie tribute show. The "band" was a rag-tag lineup of various Vegas musicians, taking turns singing, playing guitar, etc. One such person was Marc Stroemer of The Killers.

In this clip, he's on the left on guitar... yours truly is off in the back right playing the bass flute. Probably the funnest show I've ever played. Made me realize that someone needs to do a full-on Bowie tribute show here in Vegas.

It was such an incredible experience. I was completely out of my league, and it was a true honor to share the stage with so many incredible musicians. The group only practiced 3 times together. There was so much talent.

I'm hoping to find someone who recorded Modern Love (that sax solo was reallly fun to play -- Steve Elson sure knows how to write 'em).

I'd never even heard of a "bass flute" until I read this post.

Very cool.

For a real fun seldom-heard-or-seen instrument, look up "subcontrabass tubax."

And then, if you win a million dollars, and want to get me something... *hint, hint*
