If you are confident of your position, then you should take a bus ride to Oregon to meet with the local Northern Paiute representatives from that area. Explain how their ancestral land holds no meaning. Maybe you can lay down a line of feces on one of their doorsteps to show them that they're just overreacting.
Return and report on their response to your goodwill visit.
They did what they did in the middle of know where, where there was nothing, and simply because there might be a few "arrowheads" in a particular spot then you all feel you need to LIE and misrepresent what they actually did, as if they harmed some great historical site, just because some artifacts might be in the area.
