The trick is to know when you're having a stupid thought. One of the great things about this board is that when you do post something dumb, it will be immediately pointed out (multiple times).
I often write posts and then think better of it and not post or delete the post as soon as I read it online. Sometimes one's first reaction is the worst reaction.
Maybe I shouldn't have posted this.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

I try to live by, but don't always succeed in living up to the injunction that sometimes it is "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt". Abraham Lincoln
“When we are confronted with evidence that challenges our deeply held beliefs we are more likely to reframe the evidence than we are to alter our beliefs. We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')
Just did so tonight. I was trying to make a joke about something and the joke just wasn't there. Sometimes I'll look at a post I've been working on for a while and say 'how is what I am trying to say worth all this effort?' and just junk it.
I don't think of it as a waste of time. I think of it as practicing bad writing.

If and when I assemble a comment - every times -, I send it. Then, it will never be answered. Or never be read, at all. Who cares...
ludwigm, what do you need? (if you are not ldsxxx...)
- Whenever a poet or preacher, chief or wizard spouts gibberish, the human race spends centuries deciphering the message. - Umberto Eco - To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin. - Cardinal Bellarmine at the trial of Galilei
Holding the envelope to my forehead. You need an autographed photo of Donald Trump, a liter of Canadian maple syrup and a pair of bunny slippers. Maybe I got that photo of Donald Trump wrong. How about a 1950s picture of Sophia Loren in one of those long tight tulip dresses instead?
The good thing is that you would acknowledge this gesture with grace, am I right?

I'd send him my Donald Trump Christmas card, but I'd be killed for it.
