Mitt Romney accidentally helps Trump

Post by _DarkHelmet »

Poor Mittens, Republicans like Trump more than they like him.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2016/03/08/poll-mitt-romney-helps-hurts-trump/81478380/

The Morning Consult survey found 31% of registered GOP voters are more likely to vote for Trump given Romney’s speech, while 20% are less likely. Another 43% said it didn’t have an impact either way.

“The poll, which was conducted March 4 through March 6, also finds that only 5% of Trump supporters said they are now less likely to vote for Trump,” the pollster said in a release. “And, of those who voted for Romney in 2012, 30% said they were more likely to vote for Trump, compared to 20% who said less likely.”

It's the same thing with endorsements. Not all endorsements are a good thing. David Duke, anyone?

Course, I kind of thought Sarah Palin's endorsement might hurt Trump. Clearly, their bases are fairly similar (and if Trump were a thoughtful person, Palin's endorsement would give him pause on the kind of voter he's attracting. It would seem he's actually proud of being the uneducated GOP's favorite).

But is the 31% part of the undecided voters or those who were supporting a different candidate, or are they mostly to all those who are already wanting to vote for Trump?

Yes, Republicans like Trump more than they like Romney now. A lot of Republicans are still upset with Romney mainly because they believe that he ran a poor campaign, and that he ended up losing to Obama in an election that they believed was very winnable. While they are basically right about Romney having run a poor campaign, they are very wrong about that election having been a very winnable election. Even if Romney had ran a much better campaign, he still would have lost that election to Obama with only Florida likely having swinging towards him.

Even though I haven't agree with a few things that Obama has done, he is not a failed President. He has been a better President than Bush 43 and Clinton.

I think you're right on this one. I don't think I'll ever really get over the election of 2012. It's kind of ironic now that Romney has revealed himself to be a less than true conservative.

No way. Obama has been far worse than Clinton.

You are dreaming if you think a real conservative as you define it can win.

Ya we know you think it, but why not articulate how he is supposed to be so terrible?

He can't. He can only tell you what his right-wing nutter religious tenet is: Obama's the worst evah! That's the beauty of fact-free religions. They can assert any BS they want.

Clinton did a better job enforcing the border. Clinton helped balance the budget. Because Clinton was willing to compromise with conservatives, Newt Gingrich helped lead the country through a very successful period in the 90s. Clinton allowed Newt Gingrich to bring us welfare reform, something Obama would never have agreed to.

Obama has given us a median income down by over 3k/year. 50 million Americans are in poverty, 46 million Americans are on food stamps. The workforce participation rate continues to sink. Obama has raised the national debt more than any other president before him combined, with the help of a Republican congress who couldn't hold the line.

GWB offered a tax break to every working American. The middle class would have never seen that tax break without him. From the perspective of a working man, GWB is still much better than Obama or even Clinton. If you're a taker, I understand your perspective of good and bad are different.

Aside from perhaps faqs, you're the biggest "taker" this board has to offer. You want everything this country has to offer without paying taxes.

damned taker.

That is not correct.

Washington (AFP) - The US government's budget deficit fell to an eight-year low in fiscal 2015, dropping to $439 billion, the Treasury Department announced Thursday.
