To say that 2 may not be better than 1 in a Consumer Society is a form of heresy. You can view the opposite of consumerism as religious values, and that is certainly one way.
And then, the waters become muddied to some degree by prosperity theology.
I certainly agree that excessive consumerism is a problem. I've often fantasized about a minimalist lifestyle. I'm not convinced that really works when you have a large population. The very earth beneath our feet now costs a lot of money to squat upon.
But the issue seems different than the moral question of whether or not it's ok to sell sex to an 8 year old boy. I know some people who purport to be libertarians who don't think the government should restrict prostitution. My question is that if it's wrong for an 8 year old boy to hire a stripper, why is not wrong for a consenting adult?
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

?
For the very reason you stated. One can consent and the other cannot.

What do you think the role of the government is? To legally restrict (at the point of a gun!) everything that is morally wrong?
It’s relatively easy to agree that only Homo sapiens can speak about things that don’t really exist, and believe six impossible things before breakfast. You could never convince a monkey to give you a banana by promising him limitless bananas after death in monkey heaven.

I think you can consent to things when you're less than 18 yoa. You certainly can consent to them when you're 16 or 17. I understand that you have to draw the line somewhere legally. What exactly is the damage you think that is done to this 8 year old from hiring a stripper?

* Possibly ostracized and bullies by schoolmates, friends and neighbors because of the actions of his mother
* Possible emotional development issues due to being exposed to age inappropriate situations
I will never know for sure what, if any, damage was done. But those are the main concerns I would have.

If it causes him to have 20 illegitimate children, than I'd say it effects my right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

So what is your solution? You are full of complaints but rarely give an inkling to your solution ideas. You also seem to enjoy choosing the most unusual, rare cases to use as your proof that the world is the worst place ever (or whatever).
We can point to all kinds of bizarre, awful and rare cases. Like the FLDS where there has been a great deal of fraud and sex abuse, among other things. I haven't seen you point to all those illegitimate children. I haven't seen you complain about their food stamps robbing you blind. I haven't seen you call for an end to their damaging belief system. Why is that?

I was responding to Analytics question of why should the government legislate morality.

I have a lot of sympathy for people born into the FLDS faith. But how much do they really mooch off government benefits? I've seen them exploit child labor. I've seen 10 year old girls become high ranking Church leaders 50th wife. That's definitely abuse of children but how much money are they really taking from taxpayers in social welfare benefits?
I haven't seen you call for an end to their damaging belief system. Why is that?
When exactly was I calling for an end to another damaging belief system? I didn't know hiring strippers for your 8 year old son's birthday party was a belief system? If it is, than I suppose it's fair to say I'm calling for an end to it.

You didn't answer his actual question, though. He didn't ask you "why."

$12 million is a lot more than ONE man with 20 children. Don't you think?

The question is how are you going to stop the random person from doing something you deem wrong or immoral? Are you going to use force? What?
