An email from my Mom
My Mom and I have a, let's just say, "weird" relationship when it comes to speaking about religious or political issues. It was understood, like an unspoken agreement, that we wouldn't discuss either anymore while both of us were still alive. And then out of the blue I get this email from her:
========================
Subject: Never Said Better
You might want to take a moment to read this, as I believe there's a lot of truth here. But, I have to say that we have no one to blame but ourselves. This could NEVER have happened if we hadn't allowed it to do so....
NEVER SAID BETTER.
Time is like a river You cannot touch the water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again.
Franklin Graham was speaking at the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida in January, 2015, when he said America will not come back. He wrote:
The American dream ended on November 6th, 2012 in Ohio. The second term of Barack Obama has been the final nail in the coffin for the legacy of the white Christian males who discovered, explored, pioneered, settled and developed the greatest republic in the history of mankind. A coalition of blacks, Latinos, feminists, gays, government workers, union members, environmental extremists, the media, Hollywood, uninformed young people, the "forever needy," the chronically unemployed, illegal aliens and other "fellow travelers" have ended Norman Rockwell's America.
You will never again out-vote these people. It will take individual acts of defiance and massive displays of civil disobedience to get back the rights we have allowed them to take away. It will take zealots, not moderates and shy, not reach-across-the-aisle RINOs to right this ship and restore our beloved country to its former status. People like me are completely politically irrelevant, and I will probably never again be able to legally comment on or concern myself with the aforementioned coalition which has surrendered our culture, our heritage and our traditions without a shot being fired.
The cocker spaniel is off the front porch, the pit bull is in the back yard The American Constitution has been replaced with Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" and the likes of Chicago shyster David Axelrod along with international socialist George Soros have been pulling the strings on their beige puppet have brought us Act 2 of the New World Order. The curtain will come down but the damage has been done, the story has been told.
Those who come after us will once again have to risk their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to bring back the Republic that this generation has timidly frittered away due to white guilt and political correctness.

I decided to respond the next day, reluctantly...
Not that it really matters, but Franklin Graham didn't say any of that stuff. This email has been passed around on the web for years, long before it was falsely attributed to Franklin Graham. In another version, it was attributed to a Marine, which probably isn't true either. Here is the fact check on that:

Besides, I thought you were a "Reagan Conservative." Here is what Reagan and his predecessor had to say about it back when "America was great."

it is not only the greatest; it is the most unboasting...
I might add the average American person...You might ask yourself if, after all, it matters to ordinary human beings, and to history, whether philosophers decide in favour of geocentrism or heliocentrism. Who cares whether Earth goes around the Sun or vice versa?
Unfortunately it makes all the difference in the world. To the average person in early history (and now too!) the sky and all it contains is of minor importance (except perhaps for the Sun). It is the Earth that counts and only the Earth. And on Earth, only mankind counts. And of men, only one’s country, one’s city, one’s tribe, one’s family, one’s self counts. The average person is geocentric, anthropocentric, ethnocentric, and egocentric.
The quote is from The Tragedy of Moon by Isaac Asimov.
by the way, Kevin Graham, Your mom is very similar to my wife; maybe they are spiritual sisters. Even she - my wife - lives in the time zone UTC - 5/6/7. At least her bedtime and uprising.

Re: An email from my Mom
some peoples american dream has been others American nightmare.
that email is such a ghastly message that I can say no more.
//////////////////////////
There is some talk which exerts a ferocious wind to make me be ashamed of being white and American. Problem is I am proud and will not bend to such talk.

Wow.
I feel for you Kevin, I really do. I have the same weird relationship with my dad. I enforce it pretty strictly, but some of my siblings thought they would try to put 'family' before religion and let the children see grandpa casually.
That ended, as my younger brother explained to me almost in tears, when my father sent him a note saying that he didn't want to hear about his three teenage girls' sports, school events and fun times; the only thing that would make him truly happy would be to hear about the callings he and his wife had at church, and the church events his grand-daughters faithfully attended.
Needless to say, his three lovely and lively daughters no longer visit grandpa.

Such a needless lose for both sets.

Truly. I'm still sick that it would even occur to a grown man to tell his son that he didn't want to hear about his grandchildren.
Knowing my father, he mourned his son's loss (due to Not Being Mormon) while secretly applauding himself for being a righteous Mormon who was willing to sacrifice children in order to stay true to the restored gospel.
There must be unfathomable amounts of mentalgymnast-caliber intellectual dishonesty necessary to maintain that position.

I'm LDS and a Granddad of 5. I can't imagine such an antithesis to what my religion teaches.

As it should be. Unfortunately, my family's version of your religion taught this. It is a fairly pervasive stance in my TBM 7 full generations back on both sides, polygamous-stint-in-Mexico, sent-by-the-prophet-to-settle-Northern-Arizona extended family. Only in my generation have people finally begun to wake up and decide to live otherwise. It's causing a great deal of push-back.
That reminds me of a story. When my grandfather was very old, well past 90, he visited my family in Utah. My dad helped him find his Mother's grave. He spent such a long time kneeling at the grave that I asked my Dad what was going on.
It turns out that he never saw her again after leaving Utah because, as an older wife, she stayed behind when the Prophet sent my teenage grandfather, his father and other siblings to Arizona. Accompanying them was his brand new 'mother', a polygamous second wife who was barely out of her teens herself.

I can't wait for an update. Conservative parents hate to be fact checked by their kids.
