Re: An email from my Mom
Kevin, I feel some trepidation pursuing this question, it could touch something personal. However you posted the personal matter. You are a smart fellow, it is unlikely that your mother is not also a smart person with different views. The passalong email reads to my eyes as hard core white supremacist propaganda. It seems possible for a person to be so used to hate Obama speak as to miss this underlying ugliness. Perhaps there are other ideological habits of thought which would allow someone to ok this message without kkk even crossing their mind.

It's almost as if there are white people who have never met white assholes.
How would an all-white society be any better than what we have? I don't get it.
I'd hate to go back to the 50's/60's. I was watching the new mini-series 11.22.63 (which is great, by the way) about this guy from our time who enters a portal back to 1960. There's a part where he's heading to the restroom and a black guy looks at him and says, "You're going the wrong way, sir." He looked up and noticed he was going to the "Colored only" restroom. The whole scene sent a shiver down my spine. I can't imagine living in a world where that's normal.

You can never look backward for answers. The founding fathers took the American Dream as far as they could, but human thought evolves. We honor them, not by looking backward, but to carry on their Revolution by behaving as they did: Looking forward and working towards a more perfect union.
By defining the American dream in such a narrow fashion, you are by definition forcasting its demise, because in order for the 'perfect union' that you imagined to exist, nothing can change. And time is a river...

Some people want to bring this country, kicking and screaming, back into the 19th Century. White Americans do not get additional votes for seniority. They do not get additional votes because their mothers were here first. We all get a crack at defining the future of America: THAT'S the American way.

At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.

The level of respect you extend to your mother is as expected...you keep score with her and the reason why not to escapes you.
You epitomize the arrogance and misguided priorities that is issued with the modern liberal cup of Kool aid.

I don't understand the applicability of the Darwin quote here. Liberals always try to equate their own "perspective" of how life must be as some sort of natural occurrence..as if their own "notion" of what something means is this "environment" that Darwin mentions...as if their attitude is as natural as the weather - as inevitable as the winter snow...but they are no different than those which they oppose.
How a liberal can claim that lions being vegetarian is the inevitable conclusion of "evolution" is lost on me...
So, perhaps you can justify how it is that the liberal political platform is tantamount to Darwin's "environment" mentioned above.

LOL!
To be expected from a mind polluted with Right Wing mentality. If the tables were turned, you'd be saying she was disrespecting me.
I mean seriously, I'm the one disrespecting here? She shoots me this KKK propaganda out of the blue whenever she is intoxicated it seems. She also includes me in these group texts to let me see what kind of crazy bigots she commiserates with. She and her jackass husband corner my wife when they're alone with her and start on the glories of a Trump Presidency with straight faces; and they start bashing immigrants knowing full well that she is one. But I'm the one being disrespectful right?
About six months ago my Mom said to my wife, "Oh I bet everyone at your work is loving Trump because he is also in Real Estate." My wife kindly responded, "Actually no, none of them like him at all." She and my step-Dad went ballistic on her, and after my wife explained she didn't like Trump because he wanted to change the Constitution so that natural born citizens weren't automatic citizens, and also that Bill O' Reilley even disagreed with him, my Step Dad got in her face, stuck his chest out, said "you don't have your facts straight," and the said with a deep mean voice, and in front of my kids, "I don't care what you think since you're not able to vote... legally." Insinuating that she would try to vote illegally or something just because she is an immigrant.
After hearing about this incident and wanting to knock him out for talking that way to my wife in front of my kids, I decided to let it blow over and we've never talked about it. In fact, I make it a point to never talk about politics with these FOX News loonies. The closest thing we ever said about politics face to face in the last 8 years, was about a month ago when I went over there to pick up my kids and my Step Dad said, "Better watch out, Gabriel (my two year old) was loving watching FOX News with me." I just walked off and said over my shoulder, "I can't blame him. Like many people, he probably gets it confused with the Cartoon Network."

You and your family are being emotionally abused. I don't know your personal situation, but sometimes an extended absence does help.

Oh, we do that a lot actually. I'll go months at a time before there is any contact between us.
