Trump Sticks it to Struggling Homeowners.

Post by _Gunnar »

In his very first act after giving his inaugural speech, Trump acted to raise mortgage rates on struggling homeowners.
After Donald Trump was sworn in as president, he delivered his inaugural address. Then he went to the White House, whereupon he stuck it to homeowners.

One of President Obama’s last acts as head of the executive branch was to instruct Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro to cut mortgage insurance premiums under the Federal Housing Authority (FHA). The move was intended to expand mortgages to lower-income families to allow them the opportunity to own a home, effectively saving FHA borrowers anywhere between $500 and $1,000 per year. Despite the housing crash of 2008, Secretary Castro said his administration would be more than capable of absorbing the hit in annual revenue, making a bailout of the FHA highly unlikely.

However, under the new executive order Trump signed on Friday evening, the cut in premium rates has now been suspended “indefinitely,” meaning low-income homeowners across the United States already struggling to pay their mortgage are now going to have to scrimp and save even more, as Trump’s latest action now makes them roughly $1,000 poorer.

The fact that this was Trump’s first executive order should be particularly surprising to anyone who took his inaugural address to heart. During his first address to the nation as president, Trump promised that the symbolic transfer of power from Barack Obama to himself would be instead a transfer of power from Washington to the people.

“What truly matters is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is controlled by the people,” Trump said. “January 20th 2017, will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again.”

Do any of you Trump supporters still think that he really has your best interests at heart? This further confirms that he is in this purely for his own benefit and that of his wealthy friends and donors. He couldn't care less about honest, struggling, working class people!

Chart of Historical FHA MIP Changes

"FHA is not in the habit of reducing its MIP costs. In fact, the mortgage backing agency has raised its upfront or monthly premiums seven times since 2008....

Below is the most recent and accurate FHA MIP change history chart for loans with terms greater than 15 years and down payments less than 5%."

http://mymortgageinsider.com/fha-mortga ... 1-09-2015/

In 2008 when he took office it was $43.00 per 100k, in hit a high of $112.00 per 100K in 2013...

So the seven times it went up during Obama, how many people is Obama responsible for not being able to buy homes?

The Insurance is necessary so we don't have a crash like we did when wall street had their troubles.

There will be plenty of things to bash Trump on in the next 4 years, this is not one of them.

When and if I become a Trump supporter, I'll let you know. I love this country, we have a new President and I'm trying to remain rational and not freak out about a suspension with the new guy less than 24 hours in office.

It may well be, that he put this on hold until he and his people could make an assessment. I've never been president so I don't know. I'm trying to think realistically, critically and rationally.

What about you, Gunnar?

I swear, if some of you guys had to give birth to a baby, you'd jump out a window at the first twinge. It's not even 24 hours past. Let's give this time and see what unfolds.

I guess we have no choice but to do that for now. Let's hope he manages to do something that makes a positive difference. So far he seems poised to reverse progress that has been made on equality of rights for women, LGBT, disabled people and other minorities, and to compromise first amendment rights to freedom of speech and of the press, not to mention compromising environmental protection and even human health.

You know what, it's a sad commentary when I end up trying to be the rational voice of reason around here, Gunnar. Yes, we have no choice. What good does it do to worry? Like I said in another post, the man hasn't done anything yet but talk.

Let's see what he does. Let's see what he's got besides a big mouth.

He seems poised?
Exactly which of his policy positions is an attack on women's rights?
On disabled people?
On minorities?

Gunnar...

So when the price of MIP's went up under Obama, in fact it more than tripled at the highest rate, do you apply the same standards to Obama, which you did to Trump in your OP? My question is not really about the insurance, which is a fair discussion, but how you were duped by slanted news without doing any homework.

Yes, giving birth and throwing away the baby is a perfect analogy to being critical over electing a known con artist, obsessive liar, sexual predator and semi-literate moron.

Trump effectively took $1000 out of the pockets of poorer Americans struggling to own their first home. It doesn't really affect anyone else, just these people.

That's a fact of reality. And he did this on his first day, suggesting that damned the poor is a primary component of his administration.

"Making American Great Again" by damned the poor. I'd expect nothing less from a billionaire con-artist who was just forced to pay $25 million for defrauding working Americans.

But hey, let's give him a chance, right?
