Protect Us From This Dangerous President

To the Editor:

Soon after the election, one of us raised concerns about Donald Trump’s fitness for office, based on the alarming symptoms of mental instability he had shown during his campaign. Since then, this concern has grown. Even within the space of a few weeks, the demands of the presidency have magnified his erratic patterns of behavior.

In particular, we are struck by his repeated failure to distinguish between reality and fantasy, and his outbursts of rage when his fantasies are contradicted. Without any demonstrable evidence, he repeatedly resorts to paranoid claims of conspiracy.

Most recently, in response to suggestions of contact between his campaign and agents of the Russian government, he has issued tirades against the press as an “enemy of the people” and accusations without proof that his predecessor, former President Barack Obama, engaged in partisan surveillance against him.

We are in no way offering a psychiatric diagnosis, which would be unwise to attempt from a distance. Nevertheless, as psychiatrists we feel obliged to express our alarm. We fear that when faced with a crisis, President Trump will lack the judgment to respond rationally.

The military powers entrusted to him endanger us all. We urge our elected representatives to take the necessary steps to protect us from this dangerous president.

Quite a few people seem to be coming to that conclusion. There seems to be a fair amount of evidence that this is someone who will need cool and experienced heads on the National Security Council to advise, and if necessary caution him.

But what kind of person did Trump decide needed to be added to the regular attenders at the Council.

Yup. Steve Bannon. Does that make you sleep easier in your bed at night?

Here is a little gem about the way Bannon thinks:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Ban ... _and_media

In 2007, Bannon wrote an eight-page treatment for a new documentary called Destroying the Great Satan: The Rise of Islamic Facism (sic) in America. The outline describes Council on American-Islamic Relations and the Islamic Society of North America as "cultural jihadists". Bannon wrote the outline himself, and it labels the Washington Post, the New York Times, NPR, "Universities and the Left", the "American Jewish Community", the ACLU, the CIA, the FBI, the State Department, and the White House as "enablers" of a covert mission to establish an Islamic Republic in the United States.[45]

Bannon film outline warned U.S. could turn into ‘Islamic States of America’

Do you believe that those who DIDN'T vote for him are guilty of "collectively voting" for him?

If you didn't vote for the solution (Clinton), you're part of the problem (Drumpf).

And for context, Clinton is a solution in the same way almost any other politician would be a solution. Better than the moron we've got.

Trump will never be as scary as knowing that people like this can vote

First, that is some pretty black and white, binary thinking. If we follow that logic not voting for either of the two major candidates is effectively supporting both of them. Second, what about those of us that reside in states where our vote for Clinton could not possibly have been important in the EC win?

Edit: wrong quote

I fixed it, it is right now. I had originally quoted the last half of your statement, not the first.
