Trump: House Health Care Bill is "mean"

Post by _Jersey Girl »

Or: Trump possibly regains consciousness and calls it what it is.

I can't decide if he's being genuine (like he finally laid eyes on it) or if this is a CYA move on his part (like he finally laid eyes on it).

Trump Calls The Health Care Bill He’s Been Praising ‘Mean’

The president is said to have admonished senators to be “more generous” with their version of the bill.

By Lydia O’Connor

President Donald Trump told Republican senators on Tuesday that the House health care bill he championed last month is “mean,” The Associated Press and CNN reported, citing unnamed congressional sources.

Trump’s remarks came during a lunch with 15 Republican senators. He reportedly said the Senate version of the bill should be “more generous.”

Trump had hailed the Republican-written House measure when it was passed on May 4 with an address in the White House Rose Garden.

“It was a GREAT day for the United States of America!” Trump tweeted that same day. “This is a great plan that is a repeal & replace of ObamaCare. Make no mistake about it.”

The White House said on Tuesday it wouldn’t comment “on rumors about private conversations that may or may not have happened.”

Trump’s flip-flop didn’t go without notice.

Politico, citing sources familiar with Trump’s meeting with senators, reported the president believes the House version of the bill is difficult to defend, and said he’d like to see more robust tax credits for people who buy health insurance as individuals.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated in March that the original House health care bill would lead to 24 million fewer people with insurance over the next decade. It would create higher premiums for older customers, allow for lower premiums for young, healthy people, and cut taxes for Trump and other millionaires.

The Senate has been secretly working on its own health care bill. It’s unclear how senators will address Trump’s suggestion to be “more generous.”

Republican senators have been crafting health care legislation behind closed doors without holding any hearings, though Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) insisted to reporters on Tuesday that they’re “free to ask anybody anything.”

Senate GOP leaders also on Tuesday issued, then retracted a rule barring reporters from asking questions in public hallways outside of hearing rooms.

From another article:

One source said Trump called the House bill “mean, mean, mean” and said, “We need to be more generous, more kind.”

A second AP source said Trump used a vulgar phrase to describe the House bill and told the senators, “We need to be more generous.”

(5 bucks says he said it was going to screw people. Or dropped an F bomb.)

"I really appreciate what you're doing to come out with a bill that's going to be a a phenomenal bill to the people of our country: generous, kind, with heart. That’s what I’m saying,” Trump said during a brief public section of the meeting.

I saw a blurb on this and laughed. It may have finally penetrated his thick skull (not to mention the dead hamster on top) that this bill was a political loser.

There's a serious schadenfreude in me that wants this bill passed. It would almost be worth paying higher premiums just to see all these idiot Drumpf voters gets screwed on their healthcare. After all, they wanted to blow up the system. Careful what you wish for, morons.

It might just teach them to pay the “F” attention (just before they discovered they were terminal).

I'd like to see this better sourced before just believing it, but one of the very few things that Trump has been consistent about over the years is his preference for universal health care. It's right up there with his love of authoritarian regimes. If the circumstances were different, it wouldn't be hard to imagine him signing off on a single-payer bill.

Drumpf will sign anything the Republican controlled Congress puts in front of him to sign. Universal Health Care won't be one of those things.

Google it up. It's was on CNN/CBS/NBC/Time and multiple other media/news outlets. I think the first place I read it was on CNN.

Trump is a car salesman. You want him to push undercoating, he'll push undercoating. He thinks of the House bill as last year's model, not nearly as good as the new improved model. Shiny! New! Compassionate! He treats voters as consumers. He doesn't realize that the slogan "Health Care - Now with 62% more Compassion!" makes most people ask why all that compassion wasn't offered in the first healthcare bill.

His ability to call the first bill "mean" without flinching shows how much he lives in the transactional now. Calling the bill "mean" is what he has to do to win now. Continuity does not matter in the transactional now.
