A Good Night Cap
Somehow it feels off topic to not talk politics in the off topic forum.
Perhaps it's escapism, but I do enjoy a good drink after a day of work and hitting the home projects. But being raised LDS and having a friendship circle mostly interested in beer or sifting out the differences among different types of scotch one wonders if the price really justifies, I found myself in a rut and looking for something to pair with a cigar that also might be...refreshing? I don't think that's quite right, but the gist is if I'm out on the back patio on a 90 degree Phoenix evening looking to enjoy a moment of quiet, a book, and a cigar I want what I'm drinking to take the edge off the heat. Ice becomes a necessity usually, and my go to for a long while has been the faithful gin and tonic. Which I still like, don't get me wrong. But it isn't as enjoyable if it is routine and I've no need to fight off malaria with my night cap.
A co-worker I was discussing this with asked if I'd ever had a rusty nail? It was through this I was introduced to Drambuie, the scotch-based liquor that one adds to scotch with a twist of lemon to make one on the rocks, and I fell in love. I'm drinking one right now, in fact.
So I'm curious what else I'm missing that others might recommend?

Interesting. I didn't know Utah had a distillery in Sugar House like that. Shows how long I’ve been gone from Utah that the number of microbreweries in Salt Lake also surprises me when we visit.

Single barrel bourbon on ice . Any of the following, but make sure it is labeled 'single barrel'.
Four Roses
Angel's Envy
Whistle Pig
Woodfords Double Oak.
Why drink Scotch when good bourbon is half the price?

If you have to have ice, I've always enjoyed a good bourbon and Coke.
These days, however, I can't get past the awesomeness that is a cold IPA. Ale rules! (And lager kind of blows, by comparison).
If you like something to sip, spiced rum is killer. I love a shot of Kraken, for instance. I bet it would be good over ice, although I've never tried that.

God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

What's wrong with avoiding alcoholic beverages altogether? One of the very few things about Trump that shows even the slightest modicum of good sense is that he is a teetotaler. One of the things on which I agree with the LDS Church is the wisdom of avoiding alcoholic beverages.
When I am hot and thirsty on a hot day, a nice, cold, nonalcoholic smoothie really hits the spot!

No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.
