New Years Day Success And Failure!
Low key - just the bride and son - a little football and some homemade sweet and sour chicken!
(The recipe I followed was from a dude that I follow often - He's from Jamaica)
The Success! - The sweet and sour chicken was marvelous!
Crispy outer crust with tender inner chunks of chicken breast (I think the key was the batter for this recipe - which was 50% pancake batter and 50% seasoned flour as your last dredge station)
It was really really good!
The Failure! - The sweet and sour sauce was just okay (it wasn't bad, just okay) - The recipe was basically a mixture of ketchup, rice vinegar, brown sugar, asian chili sauce and some other seasonings.
I think it was too vinegary and too watery - needed to be thicker and maybe a little sweeter.
All in all - I thought it was pretty darn good - the bride and boy loved it.
Next time I will repeat the chicken and try a different sweet and sour sauce.
Peace,
Ceeboo

Should we take the topic as having to do with food or NYD successes and failures? Or both? Or what?
I need to know before I comment.

I don't have any friends here? Fine!
I'll just talk to myself then.
The same guy (Jamaican dude) had a recipe I tried on king crab legs - (Ceeboo LOVES crab legs) - now I know what you're thinking - "How hard is it to make crab legs" - That's exactly what I thought until I tried this:
Using a very sharp knife - make a few slits in the crab leg shells - then brush olive oil on the crab legs (making sure you hit the slits) - then pop these babies on a grill (high temp) for about 2 minutes - flip for 2 more minutes and BANG!!!!! You will have made some remarkable king crab legs - Don't forget drench these puppies in hot melted butter!

Your topic is too narrow. I'm forced now to start my own thread. Had you been willing to entertain generalized NYD successes and failures, you could have had a juicy confession on my part.
Tough luck chicken man.

Re: New Years Day Success And Failure!
Here is a complete failure!
I love me some chicken wings. Many moons ago I lived in the Cleveland area - they had a place called "The Winking Lizard" that had the best chicken wings on planet earth. They have sweet and sour, hot, BBQ, etc.
Well, I have tried to make chicken wings about 37 times - using all kinds of different recipes (dry rubs, wet sauces, fried, baked, etc) and have yet to make terrific wings.
So, if anyone has a chicken wing success story - I'm here, waiting, listening?
Peace,
Ceeboo

I'm here to save your wings, Ceeboo!

I saw this video with Chaz Brown of Seoul Chicken a few years ago and it changed how I do wings. He will give you step by step instructions one what to do and give you some tips that sounds crazy but work super well (freeze the chicken between initial cook and final fry!). I've found that if you follow his advice you will be pretty good.
