Michael Cohen is a great friend to our President

Sure, Michael Cohen is Donald Trump's lawyer and virtually all of his income comes from this one client. Nevertheless, it is a gesture of staggering gratitude that Mr. Cohen now admits that it was he who paid Stormy Daniels $130,000 out of his own pocket.

So: Imagine if you will, your boss is running for President of the United States, and there's this pesky porn star that won't go away, threatening to disclose an affair with the Candidate. Do you recoil in revulsion, that a man who wants to be President is being blackmailed by a porn star he slept with 4 months after the birth of his youngest son?

Not exactly.

You set up a shell corporation whose sole purpose is to issue a check for $130,000 to a porn star so you can help elect a President. And of course the fact that Mr. Cohen gave the money out of the goodness of his heart, and not from any campaign funds, it is therefore not a diversion of campaign funds.

Think of it: The President's lawyer admits that he paid off a porn star to keep quiet about an affair with the President! We're talking $130,000 that could have changed the outcome of the election. If the country knew that Trump's lawyer paid a porn star $130,000 to keep quiet about his affair, there's a very good chance he loses. And yet this story is just lost in the shitstorm of the Trump administration news cycle.

Imagine if this story had happened to any other American President in your lifetime. Anyone who says this Administration isn't lowering the bar isn't paying attention.

Dodging the truth and lying has become de rigueur for the Trump administration.

Trump's voters wouldn't care then just like they don't care now. He could admit to pedophilia and I doubt it would outweigh their unbridled hatred of HC.

nope - there would still be very little chance of him losing.

Imagine for example how JFK has not lost any popularity after his exposure as a womanizer.....Bill Clinton? heck, even his wife energetically defended his libido with a rather shocking level of veracity.

I mean, moral outrage from a Democrat or a Liberal is just increasingly difficult to take seriously these days...even if it is only meant to expose some sort of assumed-felony-by-hypocrisy....Democrats and Liberals will never score any points with moral arguments that attempt to raise the bar for decency because such a bar has always been rather arbitrary, subjective, and dismissive whenever it suits their agenda. And yes, perhaps the same can be said about those on the side of the aisle (or out in the lobby) - and that may be all the more reason to focus on less petty topics.

I think that you are confusing the target. It's not so much some percieved 'moral outrage' of the left, but the lack of 'moral outrage' from a right-leaning voting cohort that has made such outrage one of the primary defining aspects of their very loud and public self-identification.

You are an excellent demonstration of the phenomenon.

So if Trump had nothing to fear from this affair being exposed, why did his personal lawyer pay the woman $130,000? If he was going to win anyway, wasn't that a waste of money?
