The sun won’t rise at the North Pole until March 20, and it’s normally close to the coldest time of year, but an extraordinary and possibly historic thaw swelled over the tip of the planet this weekend. Analyses show that the temperature warmed to the melting point as an enormous storm pumped an intense pulse of heat through the Greenland Sea.
Temperatures may have soared as high as 35 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius) at the pole, according to the U.S. Global Forecast System model. While there are no direct measurements of temperature there, Zack Labe, a climate scientist working on his PhD at the University of California at Irvine, confirmed that several independent analyses showed “it was very close to freezing,” which is more than 50 degrees (30 degrees Celsius) above normal.
Whether a blip or indicative of a new normal, scientists have uniformly expressed disbelief at the current Arctic temperatures and the state of the sea ice. “This is a crazy winter,” said Alek Petty, a climate scientist at NASA, in an interview. “I don’t think we’re sensationalizing it.” “It’s never been this extreme,” Ruth Mottram, a climate scientist at the Danish Meteorological Institute, told Reuters.
Please read the whole article and honestly consider the evidence.
The evidence is overwhelming that global warming is indeed a legitimate concern and caused by us. This is why the words "science based" and "evidence based" are now banned by the Trump administration in reports and memos of government agencies established to monitor our environment and the health and well being of our nation and its citizens. These fools stubbornly refuse to acknowledge a reality that is contrary to what they are determined to believe.

No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

One more reason that irrational, science denying Republicans need to be replaced as legislators at the state and federal levels. I hope this very bad news gets widely reported and enters the national conversation (at least for a couple of days).

You want to know what's disappointing to realize after being on this earth for more than a day? Jesus Christ himself could come down from the heavens and state that Global Warming is a human caused fact and we need to reverse course or suffer a self-made apocalypse and we'd forge ahead anyway.
I'm watching Blue Planet II right now and they're not shy about warning us about our behavior and how it impacts the seas which is contributing to the Holocene (anthropocene?) extinction event right now. Interspersed between breathtaking visuals and the odd warning here and there are commercials that promote the very behavior that they warn us against and is causing our current mass extinction.
We're going eyes wide open into this thing.

In the face of madness, rationality has no power - Xiao Wang, US historiographer, 2287 AD.
Every record...falsified, every book rewritten...every statue...has been renamed or torn down, every date...altered...the process is continuing...minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Ideology is always right.
Thanks, Jersey Girl, for that link. I am watching it now. It is one of several documentaries I have seen documenting the same frightening reality. One remarkable thing about it is that, according to the credits, one of the big contributors that helped to fund this documentary was David H. Koch, one of the biggest and most powerful fossil fuel billionaires, and one of the biggest opponents of acknowledging the reality of AGW and efforts to do anything about it. What gives here? It seems like he is funding research that undermines his own anti-environmental and anti-climate-change positions. Weird, isn't it?

I can't help but conclude that they just don't care whether it is true or not, as long as they will be dead and in their graves before the worst of the coming disaster arrives. Trump and most of the top Republican heirarchy are or soon will be senior citizens and will safely in their graves by then -- or so they probably figure.

It is both frightening and shameful how this kind of irrationality seems to be gaining momentum in the current political environment instead of fading away as it should. There even seems to be a rapidly growing resurgence of flat earth believers! It would not surprise me in the slightest to find out that Trump himself is or eventually becomes one of them. People stupid enough to take flat earth seriously are not likely to be persuaded of the realities of man made climate change.

We were all excited with the emergence of the internet and so much good information a click away only to see so much more bad information a click away. Whats been sad to see is people don't seem very interested in knowing the truth, so it's no longer surprising to see people migrating to information that fits what they want to believe. I may not be perfect, but I don't have a desire to believe one way or another on most issues. That seems to be the main problem that most people do want to believe one way and the next biggest is people learning how to evaluate information properly. Most never learn these skills in life.
