When a gun owner accidently shoots themself while carrying or when their kid gets a hold of the gun and shoots themself or someone else what do they always say?

"It just went off!"

No it didn't. Irresponsible people caused those problems. The gun didn't "just go off".

Conservatives blame the gun.

Reasonable people asking to do something to keep guns out of the hands of people that have shown themselves to be a danger to themselves and others is not blaming the gun.

but that is the irony...the question and the argument is not reasonable, rather it is quite emotional instead. Otherwise there would be a greater outcry, protest, march, demonstration, and twitter-storm over how significantly more children die from texting while driving. And that is not say that both problems can not be addressed, but it is to say that the emotional outrage is unreasonably imbalanced.

There are such outcries about texting and driving. It's just that this isn't a controversial issue because everyone is against it. No one opposes proposed legislative. Measures to curb its impact. There isn't an NRA equivalent paying legislators to do nothing because it would infringe on their first amendment right to free speech or whatever.

This is one of those instances of dumbing and oversimplifying down a complex situation to the point where discussion is impossible. Perfect for binary partisans, of course.

Why not ban cell phones. That would reduce the number of fatalities from texting and driving. Are cell phone companies accomplices to murder?

I really wish you'd take a moment to think about what you want to post before you actually post. Man...

Maxine has been queen of the people's republic of California so long she often doesn't think about what she says first. But why not answer her question for the sake of argument, why don't we ban cell phones? Do you disagree that banning cell phones would not reduce the number fatalities that result from texting while driving?

Riddle me this, young padawan.

One device is literally designed to kill human beings.

One device is a telecommunications computer that facilitates prosperity, economy, connectedness, and innovation.

Why would a person try to draw an unthinking corollary between the two?

That doesn't mean guns can only be used for bad things. They still can have utiltity even if it's ultimately only as a deterrent.
