Man burns alive in Trump owned Building

And Trump's first and only response wasn't to offer condolences the the family of the man who died. No, he didn't even mention him. Instead he goes on to boast about how his buildings are well-built. The reason the man died is because there were no sprinkler systems installed.
Ladies and gentlemen we're talking about the president of the United States. He once said that he could kill somebody on the street and none of his supporters would care. Well, here we are.

It IS a well built building. It's a well built building that was never updated with a sprinkler system in the residential sections.

I prefer tenants who don't die in fires.

I'm amazed that a blaze presumably large enough to send 6 firefighters to the hospital didn't bring the whole building down. That's a modern miracle of engineering.

It's actually a very beautiful building inside and out. I'd love to know if HIS penthouse is equipped with a sprinkler system.

I have trouble faulting Trump for the man's death. Sprinklers weren't required when the building was built. When the code was updated to require them, older buildings were grandfathered in under the old code, as is typical. Retrofits can be pretty expensive, and at some point could become a regulatory taking. I can't fault a guy for not upgrading a grandfathered building.

From the article I read, and I don't have it on me right now, it was a local ordinance passed saying that any grandfathered buildings that were undergoing renovations needed to have sprinklers put in them and Trump fought against that measure saying that the fire problem is more with family homes and not high rise apts.

But all of this really misses the point which is the fact that his only response to the situation was to brag about how great his buildings are and doesn't even have the courtesy to mention the man who died or offer condolences it's like the thought just completely escapes him, anything that's decent.

"updated with a
sprinkler system"
how does one accomplish this, as an architect I would love to learn this, especially for a tower built in 1979 (eg when asbestos was still a good idea).
Note that this tower is crazy unique in NY where (solely because of unions) steel work is king in that it has a concrete core. A concrete core is common everywhere else in the industry because of how much sense it makes structurally and, more importantly, from a fire safety position. But alas, union steel has made NY a unique metropolis for sure, because not only is it a tribute to corrupt construction unions, but its skyline is the only major metropolitan skyline that has no other meaning than "rent".
That being said, i am just glad that people are willing to make political this guy's tragic demise.

Maybe the guy was a total dickhole?
