Goodbye, Nobel!

Trump has pulled out of the summit with North Korea:
President Trump has notified Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader, that he has canceled their much-anticipated meeting to discuss steps toward denuclearization and peace because of recent “tremendous anger and open hostility” by Pyongyang toward members of his administration.
In a letter dated Thursday to Mr. Kim, the American president left open the possibility that the two could meet in the future. But hours later, Mr. Trump warned that the United States and its allies are prepared to respond should “foolish or reckless acts be taken by North Korea.”
“I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting,” Mr. Trump wrote in the letter, referring to the summit that had been set for June 12 in Singapore.

This is part of Trump’s negotiating style. It will be interesting to see the response.

A commemorative coin designed to honor President Trump’s “peace summit” with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was selling for a discounted rate Thursday afternoon.
The collectible was originally available for $24.95 plus shipping through the White House gift shop, but a few dollars were knocked off the price shortly after Trump canceled the event the coins were minted to recognize.
I imagine the White House will now send the commemorative coin of the Trump Nobel Peace Prize back to the smelter.

This commemorative coin is emblematic of this administration: it looks semi-official, but everyone knows it's a sham.
It's also symbolic of the way people act on his words, foolishly in most cases, as though what he has to say held some validity.

The switch from "Trump isn't getting props for ushering in a new age of peace on the N. Korean penninsula" to "Trump isn't getting props for putting N. Korea in their place for rejecting a sham peace summit," has been instaneous in some parts of the press. You'd think praising big brother for raising chocolate rations that were just lowered is a fictional embellishment, but we're straight up living it.
The reports that S. Korea was caught completely off guard by Trump's announcement are a nice touch. Just torching a lifetime of international credibility that future administrations will have a hell of a time undoing.
