Unlike America at that time, horses lived and prospered in the old world and evidence of such happenings is scientifically proven. Horses in the Book of Mormon are nothing but the imagination of Joseph Smith who stole stories and ideas from others in order to invent a new religion. He ignorantly dreamed up the idea of horses in America just like he dreamed up names and silly notions about the Egyptian papyrus which he purchased with the hard working money provided by those he duped.
Smith was a dirty liar and a threat to the personal freedom of others. That's why he was jailed and eventually shot by people who were upset with the man's devious behavior.
