Show of hands, who thinks this Article 5 NATO thing makes sense and is prepared to seriously argue that we should send men off to die for the balkan state of Montenegro?

One, USA, 9/11, OEF. During which Montenegro had a single casualty, who died of a heart attack. Montenegro, population ~650,000, sent 45 troops.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armed_For ... Montenegro
So, by population, their participation rate is 0.0069%, and their casualty rate is 0.000154%
USA, population 325 million, has had 2346 fatalities and 20,095 wounded. That's a casualty rate of 0.0069%, or, ~45 times the participation rate of Montenegro. Let's not even try to compare participation rates, it's bad.
I know, lies, damn lies, and statistics. Expecting little Montenegro to take on Al Qaeda and the Taliban is rather absurd. But that's the point, isn't it. This relationship is absurd. They have made commitments which they clearly are not capable of living up to. And this is where I point out that you didn't answer the question I asked... if Montenegro were attacked, hypothetically, which isn't outside the realm of possibility with all this Russia talk, should we send men to die for them? How often Article 5 of this particular alliance has been invoked is irrelevant. What's relevant is what we're committing to. If Russia invaded Montenegro, should we send men to die? Should we go to war with Russia?

Why President Trump's Comments About Montenegro Were a Win for Vladimir PutinTrump needs geography lessons from Putin. How embarrassing.
Take a wild guess who the only country was to invoke Article 5?

It's almost as if Kevin reads nothing before he posts.

So they helped even though they were not members of NATO and were not obligated in any way to help.

Yes that is the point of NATO. If Russia knows we are not serious they will take what ever they can get. Trump's behavior is exactly what we would expect of someone compromised by the Russians. Some people really need to start paying attention.

It is as if Waterdog cannot post a coherent thought of his own without first borrowing from Trump or Brietfart.

So your answer is, yes, we should send men to die for Montenegro? We should start a war with Russia?
What do others say? Agree with Themis? Do we have any "no" votes?
