As we're considering pardons from the Trump administration, here's a little historical background on some, er, recent activity:

Former Attorney General Dick Thornburgh likened the White House
in the last weeks of the Clinton administration to a Middle Eastern bazaar.
FBI Director Louis Freeh objected to something worse: “[T]he White
House went to extraordinary lengths to deceive the Attorney General,
myself, the Department of Justice and everyone about who was on the
secret pardon list.”
