Isn't this rather hypocritical? We're always hearing folks on the Right say Democrats are just buying votes by giving away our tax dollars to their constituents. And here is Trump, creating a trade war that devastated American farmers. And instead of letting those consequences play out, proving his war was wrong, he just pays them off with our tax dollars so they'll vote for him come 2020. The tariffs are nothing more than a tax on American consumers and here we are being double-taxed by having to bail out farmers who can't hack the strain of Trump's trade war.

Trump voters seem to want and like their handouts just as much as any supposed welfare queen out there.

Most of these proposed billions would go to corporate Agribusiness.

Gotta love how this is done because it is an "emergency"! What's the emergency, exactly? Someone's bottom line didn't meet expectations? No one is starving because of this.

Thousands of American citizens are still without electricity in Puerto Rico. But to give them a billion would be to throw the budget out of whack, right?

Can you remind us why you think the country as a whole - which is already operating in a growing deficit - should cushion huge businesses against the short-term impact of policies which, according to you, will greatly benefit those businesses in the long run? I mean, the middle classes have to help out the poor old multi-billion corporates? Why?

Does it ever work the other way round?

I wonder how much of this money will inevitably end up in the hands of Chinese-owned American farming/agriculture outfits, like Smithfield, or the 400+ farms China owns in the US?

Why do my tax dollars need to be used to subsidize lazy farmers who can't earn a living on their own? They should get a job, right? Or that's what you say in any other context.

And only an economic illiterate would say a trade war will benefit Americans. It goes against even Conservative economic philosophy and it is already costing us. It is nothing more than a tax on American consumers because it means we pay more money for what we buy and now for him to save face with farmers he just hands them over my tax dollars because, as you put it with minorities, they're too damned lazy to get a real job and adapt to labor demand.
