Stories like this are something I'd expect to read the United States did 90 years ago with reaction that is half not-entirely surprised and half unable to understand what the country must've been like allow that in all but the abstract.

It's heartbreaking what the Trump administration is doing to these precious little children!  Trump deserves not only impeachment for this travesty alone, but to be indicted for child abuse and endangerment! Anyone trying to justify this is comtemptible! And please don't even try to place the primary blame for this on anyone other than Trump and his despicable advisors, one of the worst of which is Steven Miller.

FFS. They're asking a 2 year old how old she is and then claiming she's shy.

It's a rare 2 year old who can answer questions such as "How old are you?" "What is your age?" because 2 years old typically has no concept of age, years or time. Unless she's nearing 3, she doesn't know who she is, where she is, how old she is or if she's a girl or boy.

Shy? What the “F” would YOU be if you had been subjected to a long and difficult journey to places unknown, and then ripped out of the arms of the only human anchor you know--your grandma--and handed over to complete strangers in a strange land?

Shy? How about her confidence that relies on her familial relationships had been compromised? How about she's shutting down emotionally and detaching because she's scared out of her little mind and feels isolated?

How about she's losing her ability to attach and bond, and is withdrawing? Let's hope she is reunited with her grandma before she loses it entirely, goes stone cold emotionally, and we read about her in some nightmarish news report as a pre-teen or teen who is killing or has been killed or prostituted herself out on the street or as victim of human trafficking.

Where the “F” does Trump think gang members develop from? He's all the time raging about MS13 while he himself is raising up the next generation of gang members!

And oh, you know some of these illegal aliens are human trafficking kids over the border. What the HELL does Trump think HE'S setting them up for?

These aren't objects or small toys they're playing around with. These are developing human beings who have the same feelings that an adult would were they basically kidnapped and held against their will with no power to change it, confused out of her mind and being forced to adapt to a disruptive situation that should have never taken place.

She's a prisoner who doesn't know why she was captured or who her captors are. Her language development has been compromised and they expect her to answer questions in court?

Is there no one involved in this mess who can relate to the children?

Excellent points, Jersey Girl! Not the least of which is that by these tactics the Trump administration is very likely setting up these children to be part of the next generation of angry terrorists and criminals and victims of human trafficking.

So anyone who brings a child along when they illegally immigrate into the country should be granted citizenship, welfare benefits, and can basically bypass all immigration law because it's in the best interest of the illegal immigrant child? If that's the rule of law, why even have a border? Why even have a country?

Trump deserves not only impeachment for this travesty alone, but to be indicted for child abuse and endangerment!

You're unhinged and if you really think this, we really need to divide the country along liberal and conservative lines. We can't be members of the same country. When you use impeachment to win what you couldn't win in an election, I don't think you deserve to be a citizen anymore. Why don't you just sell what you have, go to Tegucigalpa, and give these kids a better life on your own dime?

How old are you?

Will you die anytime soon?

The country desperately needs to know when your generation will be gone so it can progress and put your kind of hatred and stupidity behind it.

Our government is having 5 year old children sign away their rights.

In a just world, Trump wouldn't simply be impeached. He'd be tried and convicted for crimes against humanity and suffer the same fate other similar convicts have received.

I'll be here long after you're gone Kevin. After that my children will inherit and defend our land and our property from people like you just as we've done for centuries. God willing you won't see one penny of their inheritance.

I get where you are coming from politically. We actually share an interest in improving border protection/security. But...you had to have had education in child development in your coursework--human development, psych classes, and should understand what these practices of separation (bascially creating an abandonment construct) are doing to the developing child. I've had psych and nursing students doing their coursework assignments in my classrooms so I can't imagine that you didn't do the same. No adjustment pscyh? Nothing? Nothing that covered attachment and bonding?

There was no need whatsoever for children to be separated long term from the adults who brought them here. There was no need for our gov't to manipulate the system to facilitate the separations.

At the very least, it fits the criteria for child abuse and neglect.
