Everyone knows the loopholes exist to benefit the richest among us. I paid about $45,000 in taxes last year, and I used every tax deduction/business expense our accountant said was available to us.

So for the uber wealthy to pay literally no taxes obviously means the loopholes are much larger and more plentiful for them.

In the case of Donald Trump, he was flat out breaking the law and got away with it because the IRS didn't bother to check the crazy evaluations he was making on his properties to avoid paying millions in taxes.

Blue collar folks typically don't hire accountants and so they wouldn't know of loopholes even if there were that many available to them.

Oh? How about I tell you what I think the point is, and you can tell me whether I've got it right or not. I think the point you're trying to make is the same point the huffpo author was trying to make, which was the same point the NYT author was trying to make before that. Which is a sermon on Evil Rich Class Warfarism, with Trump's family being the true target, a dishonest hit piece designed to disparage him and cast shadows of doubt around his business activities, implying he exists in a nefarious gray space cohabited by mobsters and other shadowy characters where he profits at the expense of the common man.

What I think is that if you, or the authors, actually cared about tax law, you'd formulate an argument that's not based on Trump. An honest person would recognize this has nothing whatsoever to do with Trump, or Kushner, or evil Republicans. All your liberal icons take advantage of these same tax laws. People with money hire accountants and tax lawyers, who serve their clients without regard to what political party they pay homage to.

I observe that the authors of this story both went to ivy league colleges.

Emily Flitter. I see she has a BA from Wellesley, and a MA from NYU. I wonder who her daddy is? How much you wanna bet her daddy, and her daddy's daddy, have accountants who smartly take advantage of tax laws too? Huh, how come she isn't writing a story about her daddy but instead chooses to use Jared Kushner as her object lesson? Why not Hillary Clinton? Or Diane Feinstein? Or Nancy Pelosi? Or google execs? Or Facebook or Twitter execs? Or any number of filthy rich democrats?

Jesse Drucker. I see he has a BA from Columbia. Oh, and he is also a graduate of the High School of Art & Design, an elite private school in Manhattan. Speaking of his school peers, he likes to brag, "I was three years ahead of rap duo Mobb Deep and about 45 years behind Tony Bennett.” I have no idea what the tuition for this fancy school is, but how much you wanna bet it rivals, if not outright dwarfs, out of state tuition levels for well ranked state universities? Who paid for that? Why isn't Mr. Drucker writing about that person, instead of Trump's family? What tax "loopholes" were used to finance his privileged upbringing?

Kevin, democrats did represent "blue dogs" and the worker class at one point. Like, before any of us were born. Not any longer. Today, it's Trump who's looking out for these people. I wouldn't even say it's republicans. As people like to point out, Trump isn't a conservative in the spirit of the establishment or gentleman scholar class. He's more of a pragmatist, or a populist.

Anyway, please tell me what I got wrong about your "point."

If you understood their point you wouldn't have blurted out the remark "That's not illegal." Because the third sentence of the article said that this wasn't illegal. So please, stop pretending to be someone who reads things not authored by glorified Right Wing bloggers.

Trump and his ilk are constantly talking out of both sides of their mouths when it comes to taxes. Back in 2015 Trump tried to convince working Americans that he was on their side by saying he was against a flat tax because the rich should pay more in taxes. He nearly convinced me he was serious too. He said closing loopholes for the Rich was a priority, and when asked what loopholes there were to make up for all the lost revenues he could only come up with one: carried interest. His promise to close that one loophole, however, was just another lie. In reality he takes advantage of every loophole he can while illegally creating some while running his father's affairs. He said, and I quote:

"As part of this reform, we will eliminate the carried interest deduction and other special interest loopholes that have been so good for Wall Street investors, and for people like me, but unfair to American workers."

This is a man who lies to the American people pretending to be on the side of working Americans, when in reality he hates the fact that anyone pays taxes, especially him, his friends and his family. And it smacks of hypocrisy when they're constantly moaning about how the rich pay almost all the taxes. In all likelihood, most blue collar workers pay more taxes than Trump and Kushner.

And what the NYT recently exposed was the fact that Trump defrauded America with his tax gimmicks which were not legal. Stop acting like this is a movie made up by the Left, it is the real life of Donald Trump and he just got exposed for the con artist that he truly is.

There is nothing dishonest about exposing the lies and corruption in the Trump family nor is there anything dishonest about speaking of the realities about how our capitalist system benefits those who are born entitled. Calling it a "dishonest hit piece" is just a standard talking point from political shills like you who really don't give a damn about what's true, what's science, or what's reality. Why don't you get off your lazy ass and demonstrate that it is dishonest instead of regurgitating the standard talking points. For all your Republican BS about caring about true hard work, personal responsibility and family values, your indifference to Donald Trump's lack of character in all three categories tells us just as much about you as it does him. That isn't true at all. I've never once undervalued a property in order to pay less taxes. Not once. I've never once lied to the IRS on my tax returns. Again, your indifference on Trump's lack of integrity is obvious. It is your way of rationalizing why it is OK, because in your mind as long as everyone does it there is no reason to complain when President does it. That's just stupid thinking and it assumes everyone does it when the fact is they don't.

Shady people like Trump hire bogus lawyers who pledge loyalty to them and he hires people who go to the worst law schools in America because he knows those are the kinds of lawyers he would need to handle all his shady deals. We're talking about a man who wanted to pay off a porn star using cash, for God's sake. Something you'd expect from the mafia, not legitimate businessmen. Trump then hires Giuliani because he's a political ally who is willing to lie and deceive any way he can to protect him.
