The Fires go on

San Francisco usually has pristine air, with constant on shore wind that always gives us a fresh helping of ocean scrubbed atmosphere almost every day. Today the AQI (Air Quality Index) in San Francisco was 271, one of the worst places on earth. You can't find a mask in the city. I had to give 2 open top bus tours today, and my throat has not been this dry since the smog alerts in Los Angeles in the 1960s.

We are nearly 200 miles west of the fires. I can't imagine what it is like in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The AQI in Tracy, California, about about an hour east of San Francisco is 418. At that pollution level, being outside is not merely unhealthy, it is hazardous. You can see real time Air Quality Index for the entire planet here.

Over 600 people are missing, many of those are presumed burned alive. I've lived in California most of my life, and I've never seen anything like it.

I've unfortunately seen something like it. I think you could find masks on Amazon. Do you need us to send you some? You shouldn't be breathing in those particles MeDot.

Ugh. When my wife and I were passing through Oregon this last Summer it was so bad. Ash was coating everything. I can't imagine what it's like to be living in that mess.

Thank you, I got some masks through Amazon yesterday. The worst thing for me is my sinuses. The smoke and soot suck all of the moisture out of the air. I bought a bottle of saline spray for my nose for the first time in my life.

Yes I unfortunately know exactly what conditions you're living in. See if you can also get that saline sinus rinse (ya squirt it through your nose--disgusting but it works) and it wouldn't be a bad idea to ask your doc for an inhaler of some sort. Even with the mask, check on an inhaler. I'm sure they'll RX you an inhaler considering the air status there.

If you don't have a humidifier in your house, put a pot of boiling water on the stove or run the shower so you can get some moisture going on there.

The stuff that's in your air isn't anything to fool with. Keep the house buttoned up as well as your car.

Last I heard over 60 people dead and over 600 missing in what is the worst fire in US history.

And our President's first reaction is to tweet blame on Democrats.

MeDot there's a thread I started here in Paradis it has "I dare you" in the thread title. There's an org that that is supposed to be supplying respirators. If your masks don't do the trick, check that out. It's going to be in your air for a long time. We get you guys' smoke out here where I live. It'll be coming round to us before long as well.

Masks
Inhaler
Respirator if needed
Sinus rinse
Any antihistamine you have
Add moisture to the air in your home
Keep the windows closed
Check the filters on your heating/cooling system and in your car. They can become overwhelmed. There could easily be a run on car air filters around there--just mentioning.
When you get back home--pull off your clothing right away--all of it-- shove it in the washer store it there for your next wash day and shower.

At the first sign of breathing problems, head to the ER.

He's supposed to go visit the people there. Sure hope he doesn't get an asthma attack or anything.

Ask me how sincere I was right there.
