Trump Engages in CoverUp
https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/418 ... was-pissed
I thought this was highly unusual, and maybe unprecedented. The Senate requested to be briefed by CIA director Gina Haspel. She traveled to Istanbul to learn more about the killing, and listened to audio of Jamal Khashoggi's torture and murder.
But at the briefing Haspel doesn't show up. Instead, Trump's "yes man" Pompeo shows up to insist there is no evidence the crown prince was responsible for the killing.
"A lot of us were frustrated that she wasn't there...Nobody was happy that she wasn't there, put it that way," Flake said.
Even Lindsey Graham said he was "pissed" about her absence. When Pompeo was asked why she wasn't present, he said the White House requested him to be there instead.

Re: Trump Engages in CoverUp?
Silver lining, it's nice to know Haspel would apparently not agree to lie to Congress I guess.

Trump Engages in CoverUp?
Was this akin to a rhetorical question such as, "Do rabbits breed?"

Re: Trump Engages in CoverUp?
So Haspel finally manages to brief the Senate and the Senators, including Lindsey Graham, came away insisting that there is ZERO doubt now that the crown prince ordered the murder.
Trump and Pompeo keep dismissing it, insisting there is no smoking gun, whereas Graham says there is a "smoking saw" and that only the willfully blind would conclude he was innocent.
So now that the Senate Reps see their President trying to cover up for yet another ruthless tyrant, what are they going to do about it?
This is the second time this year that the President has chosen the side of murdering tyrants over the information provided by his own US intelligence services. Trump is a traitor and an obstruction of justice nightmare. All he cares about is what best suits him politically.

I think we've had a long run of presidents supporting murderous tyrants. It's time to stop it and shine a light on what our foreign policy has been since WWII.

We've always been okay with having "our sonofabitch" until it spins too far out of control. Then we go into high sanctimony and take our own guy out, like Saddam, and declare moral victory. Sheesh.

Oh give me a break. There is no equivalent of this from Obama or any other President the past century. It isn't just about "supporting tyrants," it is about flat out lying to the American people in an effort to obstruct justice. Trump knew what Haspel said about the Crown Prince but he spins it, misrepresenting the evidence completely the way he does about everything. He then blocks her from briefing the Senate hoping they'd just go with whatever Pompeo told them. But they pressed, and got Hapsel to brief them and they came to the opposite conclusion of what Trump said the evidence proved. These aren't just Democrats, these are Republicans who are strong Trump supporters.
Again, this is twice now within a year Trump has done this.

Saudi-funded lobbyists paid for 500 rooms at Trump’s hotel after election | Tech CEOs, White House finding ways to get along
The Washington Post reports lobbyists representing the Saudi government reserved blocks of rooms at President Donald Trump’s Washington hotel within a month of his election in 2016 — paying for an estimated 500 nights at the luxury hotel in just three months.
Citing organizers of the trips and documents, the Post said that at the time the lobbyists were reserving large numbers of D.C.-area hotel rooms as part of an unorthodox campaign that offered U.S. military veterans a free trip to Washington, then sent them to Capitol Hill to lobby against a law the Saudis opposed. The bookings have fueled a pair of federal lawsuits alleging Trump violated the Constitution by taking improper payments from foreign governments.
The Post said Washington firm Qorvis/MSLGroup, which has long represented the Saudi government in the U.S., paid the organizers of the “veterans fly-in” trips, according to lobbying disclosure forms. The firm declined to comment. The Saudi Embassy did not respond to questions for the report. Trump hotel executives said they were unaware at the time that Saudi Arabia was ultimately footing the bill and declined to comment on the rates they offer to guests.
