We speak, of course, of the new report by The Washington Post about a group of lobbyists funded by the Saudi Arabian government who booked around 500 nights at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, and filled the rooms with unsuspecting U.S. veterans, as part of an alleged scheme to send Saudi money into the Trump Organization‘s coffers.

If you wonder why the emolument clause exists it's precisely for reasons like this. Trump through his surrogate, Trump Jr., instructed the Saudi Prince to 'wait it out'. Trump then decided against pursuing any sort of sanction against Saudi Arabia, presumably because they've bought him through his hotel bookings. Those bookings have made him millions.

For example, over the past year, Trump’s hotels in New York and Chicago reported a significant uptick in bookings from Saudi Arabia, despite an overall drop in his other hotels business. Also, a major factor in a recent increase in revenue for the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Manhattan was that Saudis accompanying the crown prince during a recent visit stayed there.

Our President is utterly corrupt and corruptible. So is his family. So is virtually everyone around him. This has to be the most crooked, morally bankrupt, and unethical Administration in memory.

Obama bailed out the banksters after promising hope and change. Bush II committed mass murder on a grand scale, etc., etc.

Each is corrupt in their own personal way.

Exiled,

This thread is about Trump's relationship with Saudi Arabia, and presumably how they've gone about gaining his favor so they can act with geopolitical cover.

I don't begrudge you wanting to whatabout, but it doesn't serve the point of the thread. There's a reason why Trump wouldn't divest himsef of his properties and we're seeing why Congress made the rules they did.

What Trump has done is, at best, deeply unethical and impeachable.

I won't ruin the thread for you. I agree that Trump's cozying up to the murderous Saudi's is worth looking at. If he covered up for the Khashogi killing, he should be impeached. He already is covering for their murderous war in Yemen, yet another reason to oust him.

I wonder if the Saudi connection has legs?

The oil clouds the issue, but we have shale to finally combat the Saudi control of oil. I hope this isn't just a ruse to get rid of Trump and then business returns to normal and we continue to support another dictator regime.

Remember when Republicans were screaming bloody murder about Hillary Clinton taking Saudi money? Welp. This is going to give them a tension headache:

tl;dr - Republicans take Saudi money and vote in favor of Saudi foreign policy.

Trump is fortunate in that he does not have to face Republican histrionics about this money funneling and influence peddling. I know the 'repeat three times' chant of Saudi, Saudi, Saudi is easier on our ears than the refrain of Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi.

It is understandable why former Rep. Jason Chaffetz's wife insisted that he sleep on a cot in his congressional office since his constant mumbling of the word Benghazi would have kept most people awake.
